College Softball: Rowan 8-0 in Five Innings Over Montclair

GLASSBORO, NJ -- #19 Rowan won 8-0 in five innings over Montclair State in the opening round of the 2022 NJAC Softball Tournament on Tuesday.

The top-seeded Profs will now take on Ramapo on Friday at 4 p.m. as the double-elimination tournament shifts to Kean University through the weekend.




Korie Hague was 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs. Morgan ZaneBreanna Bryant and McKenzie Melvin each added two hits as the team racked up 11 hits on the day. Melvin added a solo home run as well.

Emily August held the sixth-seeded Red Hawks in check, yielding just two hits as the senior struck out eight batters.

After a leadoff single in the second, Hague came around to score off a sac fly from Devyn DiPasquale to put the home team up, 1-0.

The Profs did most of the damage in the third, scoring five runs on five hits and an MSU error. Zane doubled in Melvin and Payton MacNair to up the lead to 3-0. Zane raced home from second on an RBI single from Liz McCaffery while later in the inning, Hague and Bryant knocked in a run each to raise the advantage to 6-0.

Melvin led off the fourth with her sixth long ball of the season. Hague later added her second RBI of the day in the frame for an eight-run lead.

August, now at 17-4 on the year, allowed just a leadoff double in the first and a single in the fifth. She got a pop up to short in the fifth to advance the Profs in the tournament.
