RADNOR, PA – Ryan Murphy went 4-for-5 and scored three runs to pace #7 Rowan to an 8-5 win at Cabrini in non-league baseball action, as the Profs improve to 13-4 on the season.
Murphy hit a solo home run for his fourth of the season and added a double while Anthony Schooley went 2-for-5 and scored two runs. Designated hitter Patrick Defeciani was 2-for-4 with a run scored and a double.
Ben Iervolino earned his first victory as a Prof going five innings and striking out four. Eric Cartafalsa and Christian Bascunan closed out the game in relief, allowing just two Cabrini runs over the final four innings.
The Profs trailed, 1-0, at the start but scored three runs in the second inning. Hunter Wroniuk drew a bases-loaded walk, while Dylan Maria forced in a run after being hit by a pitch. Tyler Cannon drove in the third run with a sacrifice that scored Eric DiDomenico.
Rowan added four more in the third when DiDomenico singled and advanced on an error, allowing Murphy and Defeciani to cross the plate. Trip McCaffrey brought home two more with a single to put the Profs ahead, 7-1. Murphy added to the total in the fourth with his solo homer down the left-field line.
Cabrini got two back in the fourth inning and then finished out the game with one run in the seventh and one in the ninth.
Rowan opens defense of its NJAC title when it travels to William Paterson for the conference opener, with a doubleheader on Saturday.
