Overnight lane closures are required next week as well
(Trenton) – New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced overnight lane closures on Route 42 as a bridge replacement project begins in Camden County.
Beginning at 8 p.m. tonight, Friday, April 22 until 7 a.m. tomorrow, Saturday, April 23, NJDOT’s contractor, South State Inc., is scheduled to close the right lane and shoulder on Route 42 northbound after Exit 9B over the Blackwood Railroad Trail in Gloucester. The closure is necessary to pave the shoulder in preparation for lane shifts later in the project. At least two lanes will remain open during construction.
Next week, from 8 p.m. until 5:30 a.m., Monday through Friday nights, there will be additional lane closures on Route 42 northbound and southbound. At least two lanes of traffic will be maintained.
The $21.3 million state-funded projects will remove and replace the existing Route 42 Bridges over Blackwood Railroad Trail. In addition to constructing retaining walls, the project will extend and widen lanes, and add lighting. The project is anticipated to be complete by July 2024.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information. For NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NewJerseyDOT and our Facebook page.
