GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ (March 3, 2022)(CNBNewsnet)--Drive through our community on recycling day. Paper, cardboard, and plastic bottles litter the gutters! 75% of all properties on the west side of Gloucester are rentals and are owned by out-of-town landlords. It’s a “Big Business”!
The council should consider a law that landlords provide 50-gallon containers with attached lids for trash and recyclable items. This should be made mandatory in order to get a C of O (Certificate of Occupancy) to occupy these properties. Homeowners in town should consider getting these larger containers to properly prevent trash blowing all over town.
The small recycling containers that we presently have come with separate tops/lids which do not work because the lids are thrown on the ground or the street and become damaged.
The City could make these larger containers with attached lids available at a discounted price to residents. The 50-gallon size would save many trips to the curb by us older folks.
Hoping this “Trash Talk” will invite other citizens to share their ideas to improve the unsightly conditions in our town.
Below are some photos of the trash problem in our City taken from several of The CNBNews Peyton and Me columns, with Mr. Cleary's permission that emphasizes my point. There were others, I just randomly picked a few.
