GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ(CNBNewsnet)On Tuesday, March 8th at approximately 4:15 pm, the Gloucester Township Police Department responded to Hawthore Ct, in the Blackwood Section of Gloucester Township for a report of a house fire. While En-route dispatch confirmed multiple callers were reporting the house had heavy fire and smoke. Arriving officers found the home with heavy fire showing. As Gloucester Township Fire Departments were arriving, officers ensured that the residents were evacuated.
Gloucester Township Fire Department Stations 81, 82, 84, 85 and 88 along with Runnemede, and EMS units from Virtua arrived and were able to keep the fire from spreading to neighboring residences, as well as quickly gaining control of the fire. The American Red Cross is assisting the residents due to heavy damage to their residence. One occupant of the home reported minor injuries including smoke inhalation, and was transported by her husband to Cooper Trauma Hospital for treatment.
While the incident does not appear to be suspicious at this time, it is being investigated by the Gloucester Township Police Department Investigations Bureau, Gloucester Township Fire Department, FM 82 and the Camden County Fire Marshal’s Office.
This is a reminder to check your fire alert and suppression systems to ensure they are operational. Smoke alarms are a key part of any fire escape plan. When there is smoke, there is fire which can spread quickly. Working smoke alarms give you an early warning, so you can get outside quickly.
