Rowan's Marcellus Ross Scores 33 Points in Win Over Ramapo

MAHWAH,NJ – Marcellus Ross poured in a career-high 33 points and Rowan erased a 10-point second-half deficit to pick up an 80-72 win over Ramapo in NJAC men’s basketball action this afternoon. The Profs improve to 13-3 (6-3 NJAC) and snap a two-game losing streak in the process.

Ross, who scored 25 points in the second half, connected on a personal best eight three-pointers in the game, while shooting 11-for-23 from the field. Andrew Seager added 11 points and seven rebounds while Josh Wright chipped in with 10 points off the bench for the Profs.

Trailing 40-30 just two minutes into the second half, Rowan quickly trimmed the deficit when Ross hit three consecutive three-pointers and tied it, 41-41, on a jumper by Connor Dickerson.

The teams were tied again, but a quick five-point run with a layup from Hafeez Melvin and a three-pointer from Wright gave the Profs the lead for good, 52-49, with 12:18 to play.

Another three from Ross and three free throws by Wright increased Rowan’s lead to nine points, 63-54. Dickerson and Ross then combined for five points to give the Profs their biggest lead of the game, 70-60

Ramapo did not come any closer than six points the rest of the way as Rowan held on in the final 20 seconds thanks to free throws from Ross and Wright.

The first half went back-and-forth with a 30-24 lead by Ramapo being the largest margin of the half.

Rowan made only 5-of-20 threes in the first half but heated up in the second to hit 8-of-19 long-range shots.

The Profs return home on Wednesday to host TCNJ in an 7:30 p.m. start.
