GLASSBORO, NJ – Rowan junior Eli Atiya and senior Ryan Murphy have been named to the D3Baseball.com 2022 Preseason All-America Team, with Atiya earning a second-team mention and Murphy being chosen to the third team.
Both players were named to the D3Baseball All-America team in 2021 after being key players during the Profs’ run to the NJAC Championship and the Division III College World Series, with Murphy receiving third-team status and Atiya earning honorable mention.
In 2021, Atiya (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) went 9-2 as a starter, posted a 1.68 ERA and topped the staff with 72 strikeouts, while limiting the opponents to a .227 batting average. The junior lefthander was named to the ABCA All-Region First Team and the All-NJAC First Team, while also being selected to the NCAA Regional All-Tournament Team.
Murphy (Reading, PA/Wilson) batted .385 in his first year with the Profs and led the team with 35 RBI, nine home runs, including two grand slams, and a slugging percentage of .664. Last season, the rightfielder was a first-team selection to both the ABCA All-Region and the All-NJAC teams.
Rowan, which went 29-6 last season, heads into the new year ranked 16th in the nation in Collegiate Baseball's Division III Preseason Poll. The Profs will open the season on March 1 at Swarthmore and head to Virginia Wesleyan for a weekend series on March 5-6 before heading to their spring training trip at the Russ Matt Invitational in Florida.
