John "Corpy" Fisher, Gateway Regional HS Teacher, Basketball and Baseball Coach

On January 22, 2022, of Haddon Twp., NJ. Age 76 years.
Beloved husband of 41 years to Kay Fisher (nee Stratford). Devoted father of Kevin (Emi nee Takahashi) Fisher. Loving grandfather of Ray. Dear brother of Pat Parker (Steve) and Sandy Meadowcroft.
Corpy was a graduate of Collingswood High School, class of 1963, where he played on the Colonial Conference championship basketball team. He received his B.A. in 1967 from Rutgers University. He then taught and coached at Gateway Regional High School for 35 years. In retirement, he was a substitute teacher at Haddon Township High School and an umpire with NJBUA.
Sports was a lifetime passion and he was an avid fan of our local professional teams, along with Rutgers and Villanova. He and his friends frequented the playing fields and gyms of South Jersey following high school football, basketball, and baseball. He was an assistant basketball coach at Gateway during the 1972-73 season when the team went 27-3 before losing in the Group 2 state final to Roselle. His favorite times coaching were with HTAA with Kevin and his friends.
Corpy was a member and past President of the Collingswood High School Athletic Hall of Fame, where he was inducted twice with his championship basketball team and also for his service to the organization since 1992. He was a member of the Colls Old Grads social club and currently served as treasurer. He was also a member of the McDonald's breakfast club, St. Mark's Lutheran Church, and a lifetime member of NJEA and NEA.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Friday, January 28, 2022, 10 to 11 AM at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 409 White Horse Pike, Oaklyn, NJ 08107.
