Jefferson Health – New Jersey’s Robert Murphy, a perioperative audio-video and robotics specialist, was recently honored with a BEE Award for Extraordinary Caregivers. A 17-year Jefferson employee, the Atco resident was presented the award by Irene Houck, Director of Surgical Services (shown far left)and Elaine Joyce, Assistant VP of Surgical Services.

Murphy was nominated for the honor by Certified Surgical Technician Michelle Fischer, who praised him for going “above and beyond” in helping an elderly woman recently. This woman — who was mistakenly dropped off at the Jefferson Washington Township Surgery Center — had wanted to visit her brother, a patient at nearby Jefferson Washington Township Hospital. Murphy safely transported the woman across the street to her brother's fourth-floor hospital room. Fischer said this is “only one of many examples of how Bob is there for everyone he comes in contact with each day."

BEE honorees — nominated by patients, visitors, nurses, physicians, and employees — are non-nursing employees who work side-by-side with clinical nurses to improve the patient experience. This award complements the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, bestowed to nurses who make a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patients’ families.
