Rowan Mens Basketball Wins Doc Green Tournament

HUNTINGDON, PA -  Marcellus Ross scored 21 points and Andrew Seager had 20 as Rowan defeated host Juniata, 98-83, to capture the title at the Doc Greene Tournament. Ross was named the MVP with Seager joining him on the All-Tournament Team.
 
Rowan, now 11-1, increases its winning streak to seven games and remains perfect (9-0) in games away from home.
 
Ross had 19 points in the second half to pace the win while going 4-for-7 from three-point range and 5-for-6 from the foul line in the game. This followed his 25-point effort in the first-round win over John Carroll on Wednesday.
 
Seager went 8-for-12 from the field and also grabbed seven rebounds. Rowan placed four others in double figures with Damian Smith scoring 14 points on 7-for-9 shooting, Stretch Hawkins notching 12 points and Arian Azemi and Hafeez Melvin scoring 10 apiece.
 
Trailing 45-43 at halftime, Rowan started to take charge early in the second half going on a 16-7 run to take a 61-50 lead on a layup by Smith at 11:54. Juniata cut the deficit to 68-62 with eight minutes to play, but the Profs went on a 14-3 tear to build back the lead, 82-65. Ross hit back-to-back three pointers in the run which sealed the win for Rowan.
 
In the first half, the teams went back and forth, trading leads throughout, with a five-point margin by Rowan being the biggest lead. Juniata hit a pair of free throws with :08 left to own the 44-43 halftime lead.
 
The Profs hit over 50 percent (9-of-21) from the field and connected on 83 percent (15-for-18) from the foul line in the victory.
 
Rowan returns home on January 5 to resume conference play by hosting NJCU at 7:30 p.m.​
