The nearby City of Gloucester City has been trying to build a waterfront eatery for 37 years. Why do you think that City can't get the job done? (photo credit CNBNews)

BROOKLAWN'S WATERFRONT RESTAURANT--Some construction work has started on the proposed waterfront restaurant that will be built on property owned by Donald and Svitlana Bogey. The ground borders the Big Timber Creek and is fronted by Route 47 and Creek Road. Building equipment and supplies have been stacked on the grounds and it appears the building foundation work has started.

The Bogey’s received the okay to proceed with their plans from the Brooklawn Borough Planning Board in May.

Nearby the City of Gloucester City has been trying to build a similar restaurant on the Delaware River since 1985 or for 37 years. Over that period of time taxpayers have spent an estimated $1 million just on plans and studies.

So how come Brooklawn is going to have a waterfront restaurant long before Gloucester City? In our opinion the reason can be narrowed down to one factor, the government is not involved in the project, it is private business that is building the Brooklawn restaurant.  In Gloucester City it is the complete opposite, the City fathers and planning officials want to micro manage the restaurant construction right down to what color table cloths and window curtains, said one developer we spoke with.

The Brooklawn restaurant will consist of a 6,000-square-foot building and engulf approximately two acres. About 3,300 square feet of existing retail space would be demolished to make way for the project, as would about 850 square feet currently used as a garage, said Brittany L'Esperance, a civil engineer retained by the developers.

She said docks that can accommodate four boats at the site "are intended for restaurant patrons only that are interested in arriving by water."

LIVE ENTERTAINMENT AT O'DONNELL'S--Long-time Gloucester City residents who gathered weekly for dinner and cocktails at O’Donnell’s Restaurant decades ago would be surprised to see that their favorite eatery has become a hot spot for live entertainment.

Mark Mathews the editor of 42Freeway visited the City recently to interview Cheryl and Bob the latest owners of the 100 year-old bar,  which is trading now as O'Donnell's Time Out II Entertainment Pub & Grill. It is located at 401 N. Broadway.

Over the past ten years or more, there have been numerous owners of O’Donnells but none of them have been able to attract a following.  And, although each new owner tried, they could never match the O’Donnell’s family’s reputation for great seafood, clam chowder, rye bread, great prices, and delicious manhattans that was their trademark.

It has been closed for two years.

Cheryl and Bob operated the original Time Out Bar in Barrington.

Mathews writes,

Today the Time Out II Pub is a nice local spot to hang out at the bar chatting with friends or catching the game, grab a bite to eat from their pub menu (which will be getting an overhaul), or enjoy a variety of live entertainment options from weekend live rock bands, to open mics and even karaoke!

On Friday they even had a Happy Hour Dance with Jeff Corbett “Dancing to the Oldies but Goodies”!

Inside, the bar restaurant is bright and open… everything has been refreshed, and if your memories of O’Donnell’s are the old-school family restaurant from a decade ago than you are really in for a Wow moment!

Time Out II at O’Donnell’s is located at 401 North Broadway in Gloucester City NJ. They are at the farthest end of Broadway… sitting almost under the Walt Whitman Bridge.

Tolls on New Jersey Turnpike, Atlantic City Express and
Images-2Garden State Parkway to increase once again, come January 1

Gas prices are skyrocketing, food prices are up, your money is buying less, inflation is here to stay, thanks to Uncle Joe, so it should be no surprise for all of us living in the most heavily taxed state in the nation to see our highway toll prices increasing again.

You are cruel bastard Mr. GRINCH.

South Jersey Transportation Authority officials are increasing Atlantic City Expressway tolls next year, joining the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway, which also will see a toll hike on Jan. 1, according to a report by NJ.com

Expressway tolls will increase by 3% under an automatic toll indexing plan — a process that was approved with the May 2020, 37% toll increases and $500 million capital plan.
