Rowan's Kristiina Castagnola Top Player

ROCKPORT, NY - Rowan senior Kristiina Castagnola (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional)has been named the Region IV Player of the Year, as selected by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. She is one of six regional award winners and is now in the running for NFHCA National Player of the Year honors to be announced on December 16.
 
She becomes the second Rowan player to earn the honor as Rachel Galante received it in 2018. 
 
Castagnola was the catalyst and top scorer for the Profs as they reached the NCAA Final Four for the fifth time in school history. She tallied a career-high 44 points with a personal best 18 goals, while handing out eight assists. Her total includes three game-winning goals, including one in overtime against #5 Kean that clinched the NJAC Championship for Rowan.
 
The team co-captain was a repeat selection to the All-Region First Team and was chosen the 2021 NJAC Midfielder of the Year. Castagnola received All-NJAC First Team honors for the third time and was named to the NFHCA Senior Team and to the NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team.

Her career scoring total stands at 111 points, with 45 goals and 21 assists, to rank ninth on Rowan's career scoring list for points, while she ranks 11th in career goals.
 
Rowan, which was ranked fourth in the nation, reached the NCAA Semifinals to achieve the fifth Final Four in the program's history. The Profs put together a 16-game winning streak before falling to eventual champion and top-ranked Middlebury in the semifinals. Rowan went 18-3 on the year and won its second NJAC Championship in three seasons.  ​
