The Meaning Behind The Give Me Liberty, Or Give Me Death Speech

The now-famous ‘Give me liberty, or give me death speech was made by Patrick Henry, a delegate to Continental Congress. It went on to inspire not only many people during the time of the revolutionary war but even during more modern times. The motto even made its way onto various symbols and icons, such as the Gadsden flag. For anyone that is interested in purchasing one of these or any other flags that were inspired from that time in America’s history, then visit https://ultimateflags.com/collections/liberty-or-death-flag/. Talking about freedom Patrick Henry’s speech began by addressing the then President of the Continental Congress. The reason for this is that he had a much more conservative approach in dealing with the British, whereas Henry was much more cavalier in his approach. Due to the severity of the situation, he believed that it was not the time to be so polite and sit back on... Read more →

SCOTUS ABORTION CASE TRIGGERS ACTIVISTS

Bill Donohue | The Catholic League Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on the upcoming Supreme Court case that will decide whether the Mississippi abortion law is constitutional: On December 1, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on the most important abortion case ever brought since Roe v. Wade; indeed, it could overturn Roe. The case involves a Mississippi law that would ban abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy. A decision is not expected until June 2022. One thing is for sure: there will be plenty of pro-life and pro-abortion protesters outside the Supreme Court. The way protesters on opposing sides typically conduct themselves is dramatic. In early October, at the beginning the Supreme Court’s new term, pro-life and pro-abortion activists protested outside the high court. Pro-life protesters were shown praying, saying the rosary, holding huge sheets of paper with the names of Americans who signed a petition... Read more →

The Story Behind The Story: To Vax or Not to Vax (V)

Dorothy Philbin | CNBNews Contributor Part II Our federal administration is not making out very well in court but this decision was predictable. Today Federal District Judge Mathew Schelp overruled the federal rule that all health care workers in facilities which accept Medicare and Medicaid (basically all) must be vaccinated. courtesy of unsplash.comvaccinated. A year ago these health care workers were our heroes; this year they are losing their jobs. The same is true of most first responders. In many, if not most of these cases the workers aren't against the vaccine but don't want the government dictating what chemicals go into their bodies. Others have medical conditions which may have a negative effect - we just don't have enough information yet. Finally, there is that pesky ole document, the United States Constitution which prohibits the government from interfering with religious beliefs. The United States is divides into districts or... NFL Ticket Prices Rose 84% for Philadelphia Eagles Games Since 2006

A number of NFL teams have come under fire for the significant increases in ticket prices which have occurred over the last 15 years. The Philadelphia Eagles were among those implicated in the criticism, with fans today paying 84% more to see their favorite side compete than they would have all the way back in 2006. This sounds like quite a scandal, but are there good reasons for price hikes like this, and could teams choose to make tickets more affordable, or are the eye-watering expenses of seeing live football here to stay? Image Source: Pixabay The 10 worst offenders examined The 84% uptick in the price of tickets for Eagles games sounds bad in isolation, with the $69 average creeping up to just under $110 in 2020. However, this increase is only the ninthsteepest in the NFL as a whole, showing that there are some fans who are feeling... Read more →

The project was expected to generate 450 construction jobs, and 20 permanent jobs which would include laborers, truck drivers, and office staff. Independent: State Interest-Rate Caps over Payday Loan System Do Not Help Borrowers

The recent analysis conducted by the Independent journalists did not prove the interest-rate caps applied in some US states to be very effective. According to the head of the Online Lenders Alliance, Andrew Duke, borrowers still cannot leave the lending loop. The investigation of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau showed that 80% of all payday loans are taken to repay the previous loans. How does it happen, and why do the interest caps not help? What Are Interest-Rate Caps? In some US states, the activity of land-based and Internet companies that provide people with small payday loans online no credit check services is strictly regulated. One of the most prominent restrictions concerns the maximal limit of the interest rate. In Montana, South Dakota, Colorado, California, Illinois, and Nebraska the maximal interest cap for the money loans cannot exceed 36%. The corresponding Act was accepted in 2010, and its main task... RECENT STUDY: Housework linked to sharper memory and better falls protection in older adults

Findings independent of other types of regular physical activity Newswise — Housework is linked to sharper memory, attention span, and better leg strength, and by extension, greater protection against falls, in older adults, finds research published in the open-access journal BMJ Open. The findings were independent of other regular recreational and workplace physical activities, and active commuting. Regular physical activity is good for maintaining optimal physical and mental health. And among older adults, it curbs the risks of long-term conditions, falls, immobility, dependency and death. Yet global monitoring data indicate that in 2016, physical activity was well below recommended weekly levels and had budged little in a decade, with people in high-income countries more than twice as likely to be couch potatoes as those in low-income countries. Given that housework involves physical activity and is an indicator of the ability to live independently, the researchers wanted to explore whether doing... Read more →

THE STORY BEHIND THE STORY (Your Money/Chapter IV)

by Dorothy Philbin | CNBNews Contributor Have you gotten a letter or e-mail from Public Service Electric & Gas Co offering a new thermostat for free? Sounds good, doesn't it? Maybe not. Nowhere in PSE&G's e-mail does it say anything (even in the fine print) about the thermostat being changed remotely. This is a question that needs to be asked and answered. In June of this year USA Today1 printed an article about this program being used in Texas. Customers were "given the opportunity" to sign up for the program. Shortly thereafter people found their houses much warmer than they set the thermostat. This was during the summer and one couple found their thermostat had been raised to 78 degrees in the middle of the day. Some people said this was being done without their consent. In the Texas advertisement phrases such as "may briefly, a few degrees, altered remotely,... Read more →

GAMBLING: TOM BRADY THE FAVORITE TO WIN MVP AHEAD OF NFL WEEK 13

Oddsmakers give a slew of star quarterbacks a chance to overtake three-time MVP as NFL schedule heads down the home stretch, according to TheLines (LAS VEGAS) — The NFL is headed down its home stretch, but the league’s MVP is still very much up for grabs ahead of Week 13, according to TheLines.com, which tracks odds in the U.S. regulated sports betting market. Tom Brady, the three-time MVP who has his Tampa Bay Buccaneers off to an 8-3 start, remains the favorite to win the NFL’s MVP award. The 44-year-old is being offered at +275, meaning bettors would win $275 for every $100 wagered, according to a consensus of that nation’s largest legal online sportsbooks — including DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, BetRivers, Caesars, and PointsBet. Brady’s odds improved from +350 after the Bucs won a 38-31 shootout Sunday over the Indianapolis Colts. A fourth MVP would inch Brady closer to the... Read more →

Audits of Pennsylvania Volunteer Firefighters Relief Associations Produce Wide Range of Findings

By Victor Skinner | The Center Square contributor (The Center Square) – Audits of dozens of Pennsylvania volunteer firefighters’ relief associations uncovered an array of issues, from unauthorized and undocumented expenses to noncompliance with prior audits and failures to maintain accurate equipment and volunteer rosters. Pennsylvania Auditor General Timothy DeFoor released audit reports over the past two weeks for 27 volunteer firefighters’ relief associations (VFRAs) in 25 counties. The associations are funded by the Department of Auditor General through a 2% tax on Pennsylvania fire insurance policies sold by out-of-state companies. The auditor general sent $54 million this year to 2,517 municipalities for VFRAs, which use the money for training, equipment, insurance and death benefits for volunteer firefighters. The relief associations are separate entities from the fire departments they support. “Relief associations provide vital support to Pennsylvania’s first responders,” DeFoor said. “Our audits make sure state aid is used to... An Interview With Steve Sweeney

‘Until the day I die’: Sweeney Was An Emotional Leader For NJ Disability Community Written by Gene Myers NorthJersey.com This editorial was shared to CNBNews of Gloucester City, by Senator Steve Sweeney’s Office, Trenton, NJ Before his stunning defeat this month, New Jersey Senate President Steve Sweeney had earned an image as a political brawler. The ironworker-turned-politician was said to bench press 400 pounds and locked horns publicly with state workers unions and Gov. Phil Murphy, a fellow Democrat. In 2019, he roasted then-Gov. Chris Christie with a memorable if unprintable epithet after a budget fight. But there's another side of the Gloucester County Democrat that's less well known, one rooted in his 28-year journey with his daughter, Lauren, who has Down syndrome. Sweeney has been a key advocate for state residents with disabilities for 20 years, and his departure has the community worried about the hole his absence will... Read more →

PET TIPS: The holidays can be stressful if your pet is not properly prepared for company

Having guests over during the holidays can be stressful if your pet is not properly prepared for company. Although BluePearl Specialty and Emergency Pet Hospital only begin to see an uptick in pets for anxiety and distress after the holidays (as owners are usually too busy during the festivities), board-certified veterinary behaviorist, Walter F. Burghardt, says it is important that behavioral issues are addressed sooner rather than later. Lacey and Erica Cleary Here’s what pet owners should know while hosting guests this holiday season, according to behavioral expert, Dr. Burghardt: What may "trigger" a pet to react? Holiday events that seem to trigger stress in pets include many of the things in our life that are different during the holiday season. For instance, this might include boarding a pet or leaving a pet by themselves at home for a longer period of time. It might also result from having company... Read more →

THE STORY BEHIND THE STORY (Chapter III):

Medicare Coverage Plans

by Dorothy Philbin | CNBNews Contributor There are only a few days left before those of us who are over 65 or disabled can change Medicare coverage plans. This is a very difficult decision. There are many health insurance companies who will provide coverage, usually better than the government's, but at a premium. The government's plan leaves a lot to be desired. To start, let's look at what Medicare does not cover.1 1. Medical needs incurred outside the United States. If you plan to travel and you have kept the government's plan, make sure to buy travel insurance. Although it can be a big help it doesn't always solve your problems. Twice a friend was in Mexico and was hurt. They went to the hospital and was told that it would cost $8,000 just to have an ER doctor look at her. Her husband said that they had travel insurance...
