Rowan Field Hockey Sweeps the NJAC Weekly Awards

GLASSBORO, NJ – Ranked #12 in the nation and having won six consecutive games, the Rowan field hockey team swept the NJAC Weekly Awards for October 11, with Kristiina Castagnola, Abby Hainsworth and Julia Cavicchio earning the honors.
The Profs are currently 8-2 overall and 3-0 in league play, with a six-game winning streak, that includes three consecutive shutouts.
Castagnola (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) was named the Offensive Player of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal in overtime, as the #12 Profs defeated TCNJ, 1-0. She led the way by taking 10 shots as Rowan dominated offensively, holding a 19-3 advantage. Castagnola then controlled the midfield as the Profs upset previously undefeated #3 Kean, 1-0, on Saturday, posting two shots on goal as her team owned a 19-6 advantage.
Hainsworth (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), a sophomore goalie, was tabbed as the Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career, posting consecutive shutouts against Top 25 teams. She made two saves at at TCNJ and had three saves against Kean, including one at point-blank range with 10 minutes remaining. She owns a streak of three straight shutouts for the Profs.
Cavicchio (Medford, NJ/Shawnee)was named the NJAC’s Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. She played a key role for the Profs’ defense in the shutouts of #11 TCNJ and #3 Kean. The freshman and the Rowan defense limited TCNJ to just three shots and held Kean to six shots, with three on goal.
The Profs take a quick break from conference play on Wednesday when they host Alvernia and will then travel to Ramapo on Saturday for a conference matchup.
