Lower Township Couple Overdose, 38-Year-Old Woman Dies; Suspect Arrested for Death of Deceased

LOWER TOWNSHIP, NJ--On Wednesday, October 13, 2021, members of the Lower Township Police Department Patrol Division responded to the 500 block of Seashore Road for a reported double drug overdose. Upon arrival a male and a female were both found unconscious and unresponsive. Officers administered Naloxone and attempted life saving measures before the victims were transported to Cape Regional Medical Center by Inspira Health EMS.

It was learned a short time later that the male regained consciousness, however the female, a 38 year old resident of Lower Township was pronounced dead at Cape Regional Medical Center. Members of the Lower Township Detective Division arrived on scene and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

During the investigation, it was learned that Julian Atwood, 46 of Cape May Court House, fled the scene prior to police arrival. He was stopped and placed under arrest for an unrelated warrant. Atwood was ultimately charged with 1st degree Strict Liability for Drug Induced Death, N.J.S.A. 2C:35-9a and 2nd degree Reckless Manslaughter, N.J.S.A. 2C:11-4b and lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center.
