Rowan's Sports: Wilby Alfred Named Player of the Week; Cross Country Men's Team Ranked 21

KANSAS CITY, MO - Rowan sophomore Wilby Alfred has been named the Division III Men’s Player of the Week by the United Soccer Coaches (USC), marking the first time that a Prof has earned this national honor. Screen Shot 2021-09-15 at 21.34.09

 

Alfred (Neptune, NJ/Neptune) totaled four goals and one assist in #15 Rowan's two wins at Haverford's Jimmy Mills Tournament. Against Haverford the Profs trailed, 3-1, but he scored twice in a span of 27 seconds to tie the match, in which Rowan would eventually win early in overtime, 4-3. 

 

In the 3-2 overtime victory over Washington College, Alfred had both the tying goal and the gamewinner. He scored his first goal at 68:25 with Rowan trailing, 2-1, and then gave the Profs the win with his golden goal in the 97th minute. 

 

For his performance, the forward was also named the NJAC Offensive Player of the Week, earning the conference’s honor for the second time in his career. 

 

Alfred currently leads the 5-0 Profs in scoring with 11 points (4g, 3a) heading into the conference opener on Saturday, September 18, at Ramapo.

Rowan is currently ranked #21 in the nation but third in the Mid-Atlantic Region behind St. Mary’s (MD) and NYU, and ahead of Montclair State. 

NEW ORLEANS, LA. -- The Rowan Men's Cross Country Team is ranked 25th in the first national Division III Poll released by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Wednesday.

The Profs moved up into the top 35 after receiving votes in the USTFCCA Preseason Poll.

The squad is ready to get back at it this Friday as they head up to the Bronx to take part in the Iona Meet of Champions held at Van Cortlandt Park.
