Gloucester City - On September 24, 2021. Age 73. Loving husband of 50 years to JoAnn (nee Zedalis), his cherished daughters: Jaime Guldin (Michael) and Jodi Palumbo.  Loving grandfather to Kyla, Michael, David, and Paul, and great grandfather to Jaxon.  He is preceded in death by his sisters Jan and Bobbie and his grandson Joey. 7639538_fbs

A lifelong Gloucester City resident, George was a standout athlete at Gloucester Catholic known for his quickness.  “White Lightening” went on to attend Christian University in Memphis TN, where he once went on a double date with Elvis Presley…much to the chagrin of JoAnn.

George was known to give his shirt off his back to anyone in need, he enjoyed his friends and family with the utmost passion, and was quick to lend a helping hand. A former educator and employee at Mobile Oil in Paulsboro, George valued his time with friends- old and new- and could spin a great yarn for his grandchildren about being a former commando, navy seal, paratrooper, or spy.

George was most happy spending time with his family. A perfect day consisted of an afternoon thunderstorm by the pool in Marco Island, FL, cocktail in hand, and singing oldie tunes with his grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Tuesday, September 28th from 12 Noon to 2 PM at the McCANN-HEALEY FUNERAL HOME, 851 Monmouth St., Gloucester City. Funeral Service 2 PM in the funeral home. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, his family simply asks you call, hug or kiss your parents if you can. Tell them you love and cherish them. If you cannot, say a prayer for them, and think of them fondly. Life is precious and short.  George knew this. If you feel inclined, please consider donating to the TBI Warrior Foundation at Please memo: George Mottram.
