The Interrelation of Tech and Games

Video games have come from one extreme to the other since their inception.  They were originally met with criticism from the public and associated with apathy and aggression in children. Now, they are embraced by the world and so universally enjoyed that the gaming industry is now bigger than the movie and music industry combined. This meteoric rise had been happening for some time as the biggest releases in gaming generated revenue that would supersede blockbuster movies and the hottest album releases. But why has gaming become so profitable and popular? The answer can be seen when one looks at the gaming industry in tandem with the development of technology.

The oldest form of a game would no doubt be the board game Senet, dating back to ancient Egypt. This is a good representation of games where virtually no technology was available. Fast forward to the 20th century, and the creation of the computer. This was the turning point in the history of games as they could now be digitalised, creating the video game as we know it today. Already then, the reason why video games exist at all can be attributed to the development of technology. As new, more powerful technology is developed, more complex games can be developed as a result which will undoubtedly lead to more interest by the public. For example, a game that allows players to use facial recognition to create an avatar of themselves in-game would be an attractive feature, and many people would buy that game to try it, therefore increasing revenue.

Evolving technology has always been directly correlated with video games and they often act as a showcase for the latest innovations. Virtual Reality is one technology that is seeing explosive growth since its inception. It has applications in many industries, but gaming is the industry that has popularised it the most. VR has caused a new era in gaming where the lines between the real world and the virtual world have begun to become blurred and is perhaps gaming’s most exciting development. During the pandemic, many people had to quarantine in their homes and could not see their families. They would take to activities such as online betting to try and make the best out of a bad situation, a bet365 betting promo code can be found here, but VR made all the difference during the lockdowns. It allowed families and friends to reconnect in a way that resembled seeing them in real life, a massive achievement for the industry.

Technology will continue to develop, and gaming will follow in its footsteps to utilise the newest creations. This link between the two is the main reason for the industries growth and success, and it can be expected to remain the dominant industry in entertainment for a long time to come.
