Three Jefferson Health - New Jersey Department of Nursing employees have been named recipients of Annual Nursing Scholarships at the Magnet®-designated healthcare organization. They were chosen by the Nursing Selection Committee based on their academic achievements and support of Jefferson Health’s mission, vision, and values.
Each year, Jefferson Health - New Jersey offers various nursing scholarships: an Entry-Level Non-RN Scholarship, open to all clinical and non-clinical employees aspiring to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree; the Gartzman Fund RN to BSN Scholarship; and the Leadership Scholarship, open to current BSN- and MSN-level nurses aspiring to earn a Master’s (MSN) or Doctorate in Nursing (DNP) degree.
2021 Scholarship Recipients:
- Entry-Level Non-RN Scholarship of $12,000: Angela Frauenhoffer of Atco, NJ, Patient Care Tech in the emergency department at Jefferson Washington Township Hospital, who is studying for her nursing degree through Camden County College and Rutgers University.
- Gartzman Fund RN-to-BSN Scholarship of $4,500: Jamie Reid, RN, of Berlin, NJ, Clinical Nurse in the PACU at Jefferson Washington Township Hospital, who is obtaining her BSN through Rowan University.
- Leadership Scholarship of $8,000: Michele Canonica, BSN, RN, of Williamstown, NJ, Nurse Manager on a medical-surgical unit at Jefferson Washington Township Hospital, who is obtaining her MSN through Drexel University.
These Nursing Scholarships are supported by the Gartzman family, Jefferson associates, and other generous donors. The Gartzman Fund Scholarship is named in the memory of then-Kennedy physician Alan Gartzman, who was tragically killed while driving home from visiting a long-term care patient.
“Jefferson is committed to promoting lifelong learning and professional development,” said Chief Nursing Officer Helene Burns, DNP, RN, NEA-BC. “We are thrilled to offer scholarships to our associates and are very grateful for our donors’ generosity, which makes these scholarships possible.”
