NJNews Commons: WORKERS ON MINIMUM WAGE STRUGGLE TO AFFORD RENT

 


New Jersey has the 6th-most expensive real estate market for renters nationwide. And a new National Low Income Housing Coalition report has found that minimum wage won't cover the cost of a "modest" home in any of the state's 21 counties. The Legal Services of New Jersey’s Poverty Research Institute says that nearly 3 million residents — including 800,000 children — live in poverty. For more, check out this map. COVID VACCINES ARE 99.9% EFFECTIVE IN NJ, DATA SHOWS

 
While COVID-19 vaccines are overwhelmingly effective, it is possible to get the disease if you've been fully vaccinated — but it's a much less severe form of it.

As of June 28, over 3,700 fully-vaccinated people in New Jersey have caught COVID, state records show. Out of the 4.4 million New Jerseyans who've been fully-vaccinated for COVID, 84 people have been hospitalized, and 31 people have died — and most have had compromised immune systems. (NJ.com)

NEWARK'S GUARANTEED INCOME PILOT STARTS FRIDAY


On Friday, Newarkers who make at or less than 200% of the federal poverty threshold can apply for the city's guaranteed income program. The application portal opens at 8 AM, at www.newarkequity.org. Republican gubernatorial nominee Jack Ciattarelli is turning his focus to crime, claiming crime is rising across the state and "we could do a much better job of [public safety] than Phil Murphy."
