Property tax revenues collected per capita in New Jersey amounted to $3,378 in fiscal year 2018, the highest level among the 50 states, according to a new Tax Foundation analysis.

Fiscal year 2018 was the most recent year that such data was available, the foundation reported. Property tax collections made up 31.1 percent of the total state and local taxes and nearly 72 percent of local tax collections across the nation, according to the analysis.

Nationwide, the average amount of property taxes collected per capita was $1,675, the study said, though the amount collected can vary significantly from state to state.

Urban and higher-income areas generally pay higher property taxes, according to the Tax Foundation. The revenues fund local government services such as public education, roadways, public safety personnel and medical services.

CNBNEWS EDITOR'S NOTE: Earlier this year NJ ADVANCE MEDIA reported on the 30 communities in the state with the highest property taxes. The City of Gloucester City was listed at Number 23 in that group.

A city that is so poor that it qualifies to be an Urban Enterprise Zone, one of only 32 in the state. It is so poor it qualifies to be an ABBOTT District, only 30 other school districts in the state have that unwanted distinction.  Another ranking you don't want is being named a City with one of the highest property taxes in the state. Unfortunately, Gloucester City has that label too. NJ Advance Media ranks it at Number 23, out of 30.

In December, the City School Board approved a $1.3 million contract for a synthetic football field and running track at the high school. READ ARTICLE

Gloucester City received $1 million-plus recently from the federal government's stimulus bill. Maybe this years' tax bill will actually go down.  To read the full article click the link below.
