GREENSBORO, NC - Five members of Rowan’s Regional Champion baseball team have been named to the 2021 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-Mid-Atlantic Region team, with Eli Atiya, Ryan McIsaac and Ryan Murphy receiving first-team honors. Donald Zellman is a second-team selection while Zach Listro was named to the third team.
The 2021 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. III All-Region teams and Regional Players of the Year have been announced in all eight regions. The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Division III All-America Committee.
ABCA/Rawlings All-Region first-team selections are nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. III All-Americans will be announced on Thursday, June 3. The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams for all divisions will be announced on June 23.
Atiya (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill), a sophomore, owns a 9-1 record in 10 appearances on the mound for the Profs and tops the pitching staff in strikeouts with 66. He has maintained a 1.73 ERA, which is second best among the starters, and has limited the opponents to a .221 batting average. The lefthander was named to the Marietta Regional All-Tournament Team as pitched 8.0 scoreless innings and scattered five hits in the Profs' 2-0 win over Marietta. He struck out five and didn't issue a walk in the win, as he and closer Listro combined for the shutout.
McIsaac and Murphy have paced the Profs' high-scoring offense all season. McIsaac (Millville, NJ/Millville), a third baseman and designated hitter is leading the way, hitting at a .409 clip with team-highs of 61 hits, 16 doubles and 96 total bases to go along with five home runs. He recently set the Rowan record for a consecutive hitting streak, getting a base hit in 30 straight games. The senior was named to the Regional’s All-Tournament Team and is an All-Conference First-Team selection.
Murphy (Reading, PA/Wilson) is batting .393 and tops the Profs with 35 RBI, a .693 slugging percentage and nine home runs, which includes two grand slams. The junior right fielder, who was an All-NJAC First Team honoree, hit his second grand slam of the season in Rowan’s win over Penn State Behrend in the opener of the regional, as he went 3-for-5 in that game.
Zellman (Lacey Twp., NJ/Lacey Two.), a righthander, leads the Profs’ starters with a 1.64 ERA, while owning a team-best 5-0 record. In seven starts this year, he has registered 47 strikeouts and has held the opponents to a .232 batting average. Earlier this year, Zellman had a season-high 12 strikeouts in a win over Rutgers-Newark, and he earned the recent victory over St. John Fisher in the regionals.
Listro (Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Regional), chosen the NJAC Fireman of the Year, has put together a career-best season as the Profs’ closer, posting a 4-0 record and a career-high seven saves. The senior was named the MVP of the NCAA Marietta Regional as in Rowan's four wins, he pitched 4.1 scoreless innings, allowed only one hit and posted two saves. He also picked up the win in the 9-8 championship game victory over Marietta.
Rowan (29-4) begins its quest for the national championship on Friday, June 4 when it takes on Wheaton (MA) in the NCAA Division III World Series at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids, IA. First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m. Eastern (4:30 p.m. local).
