ATLANTIC CITY – After the second bill to eliminate mandatory minimums for public corruption failed to receive the Governor’s signature, former Deputy Attorney General Claire Swift and former Atlantic City Mayor Don Guardian sharply criticized Assemblymen John Armato and Vince Mazzeo today for wasting the government’s time and putting the personal interests of politicians ahead of the public. The first bill to eliminate mandatory minimums for non-violent offenses (S3456) was conditionally vetoed in April after crimes by public officials like bribery, perjury, and insider trading were added. A second, identical iteration (S3658) was conditionally vetoed yesterday. The changes would have granted judges, who are appointed or confirmed by public officials, greater discretion over how to sentence those public officials. “The last thing the State of New Jersey and especially Atlantic City needs is more politicians getting off scot-free,” Guardian said. “I ran for mayor to clean up city hall after...

by Lisa Lake Consumer Education Specialist, FTC Instead of telling you a ghost story around a summer campfire, we have an all-too familiar tale to share: Myra’s grandson, Jon, is in Mexico for the summer. They video chat every week. One day, Myra gets a call from someone who says he’s Max, a friend of Jon’s: “He was arrested last night and needs $500 for bail.” Max says the police took Jon’s passport, so he’ll need another $700 to get it back. He says not to tell Jon’s parents or anyone else because Jon is embarrassed. Myra is scared at first — but she’s heard a thing or two that makes her suspicious. June 28, 2021 Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on an Italian bill that the Holy See is fighting: The Holy See is fighting an LGBTQ-inspired bill in Italy that would encroach on the free speech rights of the Catholic Church. The bill, which is the work of Alessandro Zen, a homosexual lawmaker, is being promoted by his followers as a necessary step to combat violence and hate speech. It is the latter issue that concerns the Holy See. Italy already has laws that condemn homophobia, so Zen's bill calls into question whether this proposed law is necessary. Catholics are rightly concerned that its real target is to muzzle their free speech rights. A more technical area of concern is whether the bill violates the 1929 Lateran pacts, which established Vatican City as a sovereign state. Zen and his supporters say the Holy See has nothing to worry about as...

CNBNews file photo by Senator Ted Cruz | Guest Contributor As summer begins, I want to give you an update on what’s happening with the border crisis five months into the Biden-Harris Administration. President Biden has repeatedly made reckless policy decisions that have caused the crisis at our southern border—he halted construction of the border wall, he reinstated the failed catch-and-release policy, and he ended the Remain in Mexico policy, which was an international agreement President Trump negotiated with the government of Mexico where Mexico agreed that immigrants from Central America who had crossed illegally through Mexico would stay in Mexico while their asylum cases were adjudicated in the United States. That agreement was a great victory, and it resulted in a massive drop in illegal immigration—so much so that in 2020, the United States experienced the lowest level of illegal immigration in 45 years. While leaving the border open...
