ROWAN’S MCALEAVEY/LEBRON EARN ALL-AMERICA IN JAVELIN AT NCAA TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

GREENSBORO, NC – Rowan’s Dan McAleavey and Julio Lebron earned All-America in the javelin at the NCAA Track & Field Championships on Friday, May 28. The final day of the national championships is on Saturday, May 29 at the Irwin Belk Track Complex.
McAleavey took second place with a throw of 206’ 6.5” (62.95 m) on his fifth attempt, which was a personal record. Lebron finished sixth and his best was on the sixth and final attempt. He threw the javelin 192’ 6” (58.67 m). The top eight finishers are All-Americans. At the 2019 NCAA Championships,
McAleavey was All-American with an eighth place finish with throw 197’ 7” (60.22 m).
Edgar Rosa came 10th in the javelin with 185’ 2.5” (56.45 m) on his second attempt. In the javelin,
McAleavey was ranked third with 204’ 7” (62.36 m) among the national qualifiers while Rosa followed seventh (197’ 4”, 60.14 m) and Lebron was 13th (193’ 7”, 59.00 m). All three student-athletes were on the Atlantic All-Region Team. McAleavey earned New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) All-Conference second team while Lebron was a member of the third team.
Jah’mere Beasley and Julian Pratt competed in the 100 meter dash prelims. Beasley took fourth in heat one with a time of 10.63 and was ninth overall. The last qualifier for the final finished in 10.58. Pratt ran 10.74 in heat two and he was 15th.
In the 100 meter dash, Beasley was second among the qualifiers with a time of 10.48 and Pratt was 17th (10.63). This season, Beasley was named the NJAC Outstanding Track Athlete. He was an All-Conference first team selection in the 200 meter dash and the second team in the 100 meter dash. Beasley earned All-Region honors in both events. Pratt was the conference champion in the 100 meter dash and he was selected All-Region.
On Saturday, Amir Johnson will compete in the triple jump at 10:30 a.m. Rowan has qualified for the final in the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays, which are at 12:15 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. respectively. Beasley advanced to the 200 meter dash final at 2:50 p.m.
