College Softball: Kean Wins NJAC Semifinals, Beat Rowan 4-2 and 4-2

Rowan's Emily August and Nana Agyemang Receive NJAC Weekly Honors

PITMAN, NJ – Rowan senior Emily August was named the Softball Pitcher of the Week and freshman Nana Agyemang was named the Field Athlete of the Week for men’s track, as the NJAC announced its weekly honors for May 10.

August (Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah) went 2-0 with 15 strikeouts and an 0.00 ERA in the Profs’ doubleheader sweep of Ramapo in the NJAC Quarterfinals, which advanced Rowan to the semifinal series against Kean, to be played on Tuesday, May 11 and Wednesday, May 12 (if necessary). 

 

The senior righthander went the distance in the 3-0 win over Ramapo, pitching a one-hitter and recording a career-high 12 strikeouts. In the 6-3 second-game victory, she threw 5.1 innings in relief, allowing just three hits. On the season, August is 14-2 with 98 strikeouts, an opposing batting average of .148 and an 0.67 ERA. This marks her third NJAC weekly honor of the year.

 

Agyemang (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippay) became the NJAC champion in the long jump, with a leap of 7.19m as the Profs captured their sixth consecutive conference title. The freshman also anchored the 4x400 relay team to victory in a time of 41.32, which is the 11th best in NCAA Division III. 

 

The freshman, who has been named the Field Athlete of the Week three times this season and was chosen the Rookie of the Week once, also placed fourth in the NJAC Championships in the 100 meters and was fifth in the 200 meters. ​
