NJ NEWS COMMONS: JUNE 4: MASKS OPTIONAL FOR MOST VACCINATED WORKERS

New Jersey has a new policy: If you're fully vaccinated against COVID-19, you don't need to wear a mask indoors or keep a 6-foot distance from other people. That includes at work, starting on June 4. One exception: state workers, e.g. Motor Vehicle Commission employees. Gov. Phil Murphy signed an executive order to this effect yesterday, alongside another order that enables companies to call back employees into in-person workplaces. (NJ.com / WHYY)

MASKS REQUIRED WHERE KIDS ARE: SCHOOLS, CHILD CARE

As the new, statewide COVID rules begin to take effect, there are still several areas where masks are still mandatory, including health care settings and public transit. And masks must stay on in child-focused environments, like schools, camps, and child care centers. One thing has changed, though: capacity limits have been lifted for child care settings. NJ TRANSIT: 16 ELECTRIC BUSES IN NEWARK, 8 IN CAMDEN

NJ Transit is launching an electric bus program in Newark and Camden. The pilot includes 16 electric buses in Newark, and 8 electric buses in Camden. The agency is working towards a big goal: a fully zero-emissions fleet of buses by 2040. “While we have laid out aggressive plans to achieve this milestone, we are moving forward deliberately ... [to] ensure our success," said NJ Transit President and CEO Kevin Corbett. (TAPinto Newark / TAPinto Camden)

BILL WOULD HELP LANDLORDS, TENANTS WITH BACK RENT

A new bill attempts to strike a compromise between landlords and tenants, who are struggling with an unpaid rent problem. The bill outlines a plan to separate the unpaid rent issue from the eviction issue: that is, unpaid rent would be transformed into debt, but evictions would still be banned. This means landlords could sue tenants for unpaid rent, but they couldn't remove tenants from their homes. The bill also includes $750 million in rent relief. (NJ Spotlight News)
