CHEER – Thank goodness Gloucester City signed a no Marijuana smoking or vaping law prohibiting anyone to use those products on public lands, property, or outdoor events. We can only hope it is truly enforced. Even though it is now legal recreationally we don’t need the entire city smelling like a dirty diaper. Feel free to do what you want in the privacy of your own but please don’t subject others to your vices or health risks.JEER -The Gloucester City Police Department released a press statement in April with the headline Gloucester City Hires First-Ever African-American Police Officer. The headline insinuates that our community is racist, which it is not. Grant you after the Civil War and into the mid 20th century there were people living here that felt that way. But, for the past 40 or 50 years, the community has welcomed not only blacks but all other nationalities as well. If and when the City hires the first transgender person is that going to be announced the same way? I hope not. We need to promote harmony not division if we are ever going to change the divide that is happening in parts of our nation. Let's begin that fellowship here in our community.
CHEER -Congratulations to Brooklawn Police Chief Shamus Ellis, (photo) along with the members of the Brooklawn Police Department for completing the necessary requirements to become a member of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) program.Related:
JEER -The area in front of the CVS on Broadway is often filled with trash and litter. According to the manager of the store, the trash cans that had been there for years were removed a couple of years ago because vandals were setting fires in them. Would it not make sense to improve whatever camera security they have, and then get our police department to arrest the criminals?
CHEER- Rest in peace Ed Hubbs (photo) you sacrificed a lot for the residents of Gloucester City and for your country. Mr.Hubbs was definitely one of the good guys. For each football game for over 30 years Ed took his viewing spot in front of the concession stand. As a community volunteer and citizen of Gloucester Ed worked as a man with total concern for the students of Gloucester High. His passing has opened a void that will be difficult to fill.Related:
CHEER - A number of residents planted 41 trees recently in the 800 and 900 block of Mercer Street. Thank you to those involved, and special thanks to local residents Joyce Calzonetti, and Bill Waters who helped organize the event.
RelatedCHEER - Gloucester City CrossFit owner Jenai Gonzales won the Chalk up Community Choice Award in March presented by Newsbreak.com. Jenai was honored for creating a truly inclusive gym, bringing her community together after a hate crime, and creating a specialized strength program for junior high and high school-aged girls that helps foster self-confidence. See articleJEER -Once again the trash receptacles in front of the Dollar Store and Laundromat on South Broadway are overflowing. It is apparent the businesses do not take pride in their appearances. There are consistently tons of trash and cigarette butts outside of the stores. This would be unacceptable in other towns. The same holds true for the market on Market Street. You would think the owners of the businesses would realize that appearance of so much trash does nothing to attract customers. In fact, the unsightliness chases people away. It also reflects on the community of Gloucester City. At the nearby Dunkin Donut property, a broken-down business sign (photo right) has been laying at the entrance to that shopping center for several months. Again it reflects negatively on their business and the residents living in this City.CHEER and JEER – Finally the 676 overpasses will be fixed over Klemm Ave, but sounds like some traffic nightmares are going to be in our future.JEER--Does the Gloucester City Public Works Department plan on brightening up Monmouth St. with beautiful hanging flower baskets, and will they plant spring flowers in the big urns. All the other small towns look beautiful....how 'bout G.C. Look at the calendar...it's "spring" plus Sunday, May 9 is Mother's Day.
JEER – Rarely do Gloucester City officials tell the public what is going on in our community. Most recently was the erection of new Stop signs around the Cold Springs School and Springdale Drive. The person (s) in charge forgot to include a white line and the word Stop painted on the pavement which would have helped drivers to see the signs as they approached each one. As it is now many people just blow right by them.
CHEER - The parents of Gloucester Catholic Baseball for the work that they did on the Joe Barth field, Brooklawn
JEER – Something fishy in the air? Why is it that the Mayor of Gloucester City and the Mayor of Camden City suddenly and without full transparency resign as mayor?
CHEER - A new business opened at 509 South Broadway. Nero's Pub opened its doors this past month. It sure would be nice to see a couple more of those empty buildings along Broadway find new owners. Good luck Nero's wishing you much success. We can remember when that bar was known as The Red Mill. Back in the day, it was a favorite gathering spot for the generation that grew up in the 50s and 60s.Related:JEER –The high amount of people employed by the city, yet so many housing and code violations around town. If one department is overstaffed and people not doing anything during the day which has been said around town, send them over to the housing authority to help out and get this town back in order.
CHEER - To the majority of Law Enforcement who continue to do the best job they can despite being demonized by the Left-wing media and politicians.
JEER –Why is Camden County giving money to Camden CITY to allow them to knock down abandoned buildings, but no money FOR Gloucester City to do the same? Our community has similar buildings in deplorable condition. When will we get our fair share of the "Money Tree"?
JEER – With surrounding towns housing market exploding and experiencing an uptick in retail space leases and businesses opening up due to many moving from the major metropolitan areas back to the suburbs, Gloucester City housing has been cool, to say the least, and businesses continue to close in the city instead of increasing like surrounding towns.
CHEER - Winslow Township Middle School has been at the forefront of innovation and environmental protection for many years. The Middle School established a Green Team in 2016, composed of staff from throughout the school, working together to plan and implement programs and activities to support students and staff in achieving a higher level of environmental sustainability.
JEER – How can Gloucester City substantiate a $60,000 raise to the Police Chief paying him more than the Chief of Philadelphia and New York City when we are already one of the highest-taxed cities in ALL of New Jersey?

JEER-This is America. We, the people, speak English. If you want to live here learn the language or go back to your country. We need to stop accommodating every national that comes to this country and worry about our own. I am tired of push 1 for English push 2 for Spanish.
JEER -To the people who gripe and moan about politics, policies and taxes. We have a government that has gotten way out of control. Those same people go to the polls-time and again and vote for the same people they are complaining about. STOP VOTING FOR THEM!
JEER -Borough of Brooklawn because of the condition of the outfield grass for the thank you classic which brought 14 community high schools from Ocean city high school to Burlington city high school.
CHEER -Anyzek Fuel renovated a vacant building at Market and Lane Avenue, Gloucester City into a warehouse for their business. A big improvement to the neighborhood
