LITTLE EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, NJ (MAY 18, 2021)--A fire that broke out Sunday afternoon around 4 PM in the Bass River Forest burned throughout the night and into Monday evening. Officials told WPVI the fire consumed 617 acres of land that splits between Ocean and Burlington counties.
Fire officials at first estimated the fire burned about 900 acres on Sunday night, but were able to reassess Monday morning and reduced the number of acres destroyed. Monday at 11PM the wildfire was 75 percent contained, authorities said.
Officials report about 70 firefighters with the New Jersey Forest Fire Service from the central and southern parts of the state battled to get the fire under control. About 150 structural firefighters from 39 municipal fire departments worked to protect the surrounding homes, according to WPVI.
