College Softball: ROWAN TAKES TWO AGAINST STOCKTON, 8-0 AND 8-2

 

GLASSBORO, NJ– The Rowan University softball team won a doubleheader against Stockton University, 8-0 in six innings and 8-2.  It was the conference opener for both teams.

In the first game, pinch hitter Zoe Frisko hit a three run homer in the fifth inning.  Catcher Korie Hague contributed with two hits (three at bats), two RBI and one run.  Left fielder Morgan Zane totaled two hits, one RBI and one run.  Right fielder Alexa Saccomanno added one hit, one run and one RBI. Right-hander Emily August (3-1) only gave up three hits in the win.  

Frisko’s home run put the Profs up 7-0.  Zane drove in shortstop Payton MacNair in the sixth to end the game because of the eight run rule.  Hague knocked in two runs in the first with a base hit to left field.  Center fielder Rebecca Lombardo came home on an error in the second and Saccomanno had a fifth single in the second.

The Ospreys were ahead 2-1 after two innings in the second contest.  They took the lead after a double steal.  Center fielder Meg Murzello stole second and left fielder Gabrielle Barranger crossed the plate.  

Rowan (8-4) scored three runs in the fourth to lead 4-2.  Second baseman Sonia Sharma walked with the bases loaded then right fielder Mariah Wysocki came home on a wild pitch.  The bases were still loaded, and second baseman Breanna Bryant had a walk, scoring Lombardo.

Saccomanno earned the victory on the mound.  She (3-1) threw four innings and Cat Thomas pitched the final three for the save. 

Bryant ended the game with two hits, a double and two RBIs.  MacNair added two hits, one RBI and one run.  Sharma collected a double, two RBIs and one run.  Lombardo and Thomas each scored two runs.  

The Profs tacked on three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth.  Sharma’s double in the fifth scored Thomas.  MacNair and Bryant followed with back-to-back RBI singles.  In the sixth, Lombardo scored pinch runner Sam Marasheski with a single to left center.
