IT ONLY COST $1.3 MILLION !--Construction work on Gloucester High School football field and running track is continuing. The plans call for a synthetic Astro-type material to be placed over the dirt field that has been used for football since the school opened in 1961. This past December the school board voted to approve the million dollars plus project.

GLOUCESTER HIGH SCHOOL--The top photo above a contractor is seeding the field behind the football stadium last week. Once the seed was down the workers laid straw over it to keep the birds, geese, and deer from eating it.  The electronic sign near the entrance to the high school was upgraded with a brick cement pedestal recently.  (click to enlarge)

WHERE IS THE COMMUNITY PRIDE?--The trash above was placed in front of near the Water Ice business on South Broadway on Friday morning (April 2, 2021). Monday is trash pickup for Broadway i Several months ago we first noticed that this individual and others along Broadway were placing their trash out for pickup days before the scheduled date. One time it snowed over the weekend and the trash never got picked up until five days later. And, another time a wind storm hit the area and this person's trash was blown over Broadway. The city ordinance stipulates that trash, recyclables are not to placed out for pick up until after 5 PM the night before.

WHERE IS THE COMMUNITY PRIDE?--We first noticed this city-owned trash receptacle (left) at the Broadway and Market Street intersection in front of the Twin Bar on Monday, March 29. Three days later on Thursday, the same trash receptacle (right) was still overflowing with refuse. The following day, Friday it was emptied. We wonder whether nearby residents /businesses are using this receptacle for their personal trash can or can it be that pedestrians just walking by filling it up.

Below-A Lane Avenue landlord placed this junk out at the curb on Thursday, recyclable day in the Riverview Heights section of the City. None of the items were recyclable. As we were taking the photo an employee of the City Housing Office was preparing a citation for the property owner. He said the man had been in municipal court recently for a previous housing code violations. The landlord has to know what is recyclable and what isn't but yet it didn't matter to him. One can safely assume he could care less about his neighbors living on either side of him, and it would be safe to say that he doesn't give a damn about the City of Gloucester City.

BARNARD AVENUE, AKA THE CATTLE PATH--Like many streets in the Riverview Heights section of Gloucester City, Barnard Avenue is full of potholes. This street had to be closed several times over the past year because of cave-ins. Gloucester City residents pay some of the highest taxes in the state of New Jersey. The City is listed in the top 30 out of 565 municipalities with the highest taxes. Why then are our streets in such deplorable condition? What are our tax dollars being spent on?

INGENIOUS
--The latest home improvement for row homes in Gloucester City is the portable deck addition for the front of your home constructed with wood pallets. If you decide to move you just pick the pallets up and take them with you. The best advantage, if you know where to look, you can get the pallets for free.

Coming home from our vacation we passed this space exhibit on Route 301 at the Port Royal Trading Post, Port Royal, Virginia. We spent an hour there checking out all the antiques.

Hilton Head Island in March, Peyton loves the ocean. Temperatures averaged 70 degrees during our stay. No snow, and only two days of rain. Walking on the beach one day we ran into this family from South Jersey (photo below). Very nice people.  Peyton took a liking to the skinny blond hair boy right away. It was like they knew each other all their lives. How about that cutie with the sunglasses.

EARLY MORNING, Hilton Head Island Beach, South Carolina. The island, which is covered with pine and palm trees is home to a herd of deer that frequently roam the beach at night. It is not uncommon to see their tracks embedded in the white sand. During our stay, we had a deer walk down the street in front of our home in the afternoon. You will also see alligators basking in the sun on the banks of one of the many lakes located on the island.
