Winslow Township Police Officer Rescues Fire Victim

SICKLERVILLE NJ(March 21, 2021)--Saturday, March 30 at approximately 9 AM while on routine patrol, Patrolman J. Ferren observed flames coming from the rear sliding door of a ground floor apartment at the Edgewood Acres Apartment complex in the Sicklerville section of Winslow Township.

Patrolman Ferren immediately notified Central Communications to dispatch the Winslow Township Fire Department. Patrolman Ferren was able to gain entry through the front door of the apartment where he heard someone calling for help. He was able to make his way through the heavy smoke condition and locate an elderly victim laying on the floor. She was carried out to safety where he began first aid until Winslow Township EMS arrived. The victim was transported to the hospital suffering from smoke inhalation and burns.

Other responding officers evacuated all the residents in the same apartment building. The Winslow Township Fire Department quickly responded and extinguished the fire, keeping it contained to only one apartment. The victim's dog and parrot were also rescued without incident.  

The residents were returned to their apartments in a timely manner. The fire is considered non-suspicious and under investigation by the Camden County Fire Marshall.
