Online gambling is incredibly popular in the UK, in several European countries, and in plenty more places. However, the rules for online gambling across North America is a little confusing, so where can you play online casino games and enjoy gambling? Take a look here to find out.

While there are hundreds of brick-and-mortar casino venues across the United States, online gambling generally still isn’t allowed in the country. In 2011, the Department of Justice changed the way the Wire Act of 1961, which prohibits certain types of gambling businesses, acts. The change allowed individual US states to legalize and regulate online casino gambling and led the states of New Jersey, Nevada, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia to legalize online gambling, allowing users to play at online casinos and enjoy lotteries.

Similarly, the US Supreme Court in 2018 overturned the federal sports betting ban, allowing states to individually legalize and regulate sports betting. As a result, dozens of US states have now legalized retail sports betting, and some have also legalized mobile or online sports betting, including Illinois, Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington DC.

Laws regarding online gambling and betting in the US are somewhat convoluted and hard to understand, but they’re constantly changing, which means we may see more states in the country legalize online gambling - one of the most popular hobbies in the world.

The laws regarding online gambling in Canada are also somewhat convoluted. According to reports, it’s not illegal to play at online casinos in the country, but it is illegal to operate an online casino website from within Canada. What’s more, each province within Canada can legalize various types of gambling, which can be accessed through a computer, essentially allowing each province to dictate how online gambling operates.

Most offshore gambling websites operate within Canada, and many of them accept Canadian currency on their websites. Since it isn’t illegal to play at a casino site in the country, many people across Canada enjoy registering with these websites and play casino games or other gambling activities.

Finally, the Kahnawake Gaming Commission is a gambling regulatory body similar to the UK Gambling Commission that is able to issue gambling licenses and regulate online casinos or sportsbooks within the Mohawk Territory of Kahnawake in Quebec. The organization works to ensure fair gaming and guaranteed payouts.

Mexico is another country with convoluted laws regarding the way online gambling operators. Players located in Mexico are reportedly allowed to register and play at operators located overseas but cannot play at casino operators based within Mexico itself. This means that many gambling sites operating in the UK and across Europe were available within Mexico, giving Mexican players hundreds of places to play at. However, the country has plans on implementing new online gambling legislation, which could see Mexico change how the online gambling industry operates in the country.
