Over 100 Sites in Philadelphia Opened for COVID-19 Vaccination

PHILADELPHIA PA (February 27, 2021)--There are more than 100 sites citywide that are approved to administer the COVID-19 vaccine, and that number continues to grow, but vaccine supply is still relatively low in Philadelphia. Because of the limited supply of vaccines, the City is taking a phased approach to distributing it, focusing on vaccinating those who are at the highest risk first. Because of this approach, the vast majority of the vaccine clinics in Philadelphia currently require appointments. As we plan to receive an increased vaccine supply in the coming weeks and months, we’re growing our network of vaccine distributors. This means that as vaccine supply increases, it will become easier and easier to schedule an appointment and get the vaccine at a location close to you. Here are a few of the ways we’ve recently expanded our vaccine distribution network. A FEMA mass vaccination site We partnered with FEMA... Read more →

YOUR MONEY: What Is Cryptocurrency?

(NAPSI)—Social and traditional media have been abuzz with articles and information about the rising phenomenon of digital currencies. But what does it all mean and should you buy in? What Is Cryptocurrency? Cryptocurrency, or simply crypto, is one type of digital currency. Cryptocurrencies are distinct from “fiat currencies” such as the dollar, euro or yen. Unlike fiat currencies, crypto isn’t represented or organized by physical paper units or coins. Rather, each unit is a unique alphanumeric string of computer code. Also, cryptocurrencies are not issued by a central bank. Instead, they are controlled by technology that determines how many units are produced and how transactions are recorded. While Bitcoin is one of the earliest and most recognized cryptocurrencies, more than 1,000 cryptocurrencies currently exist. For U.S. federal tax purposes, cryptocurrency is treated as property, which means selling or exchanging it can have tax consequences. Cryptocurrencies and Risk Buying, selling and... Read more →

5 Undeniable Guidelines for Choosing a Contractor

Whether it is constructing a new house or carrying out a repair, it is always important to hire a professional contractor rather than do it yourself. But choosing the right contractor may not be easy for most of us. An incompetent contractor can cause delays, substandard work, or even legal issues. Follow these guidelines to choose the contractor for your project. The Contractor Must Be Licensed Before choosing a contractor for your project, make sure the person is licensed to work in your area. A valid license demonstrates a contractor's credibility and knowledge of a particular project. It also proves that contractors have taken an exam and qualified in building and related processes. Before starting, make sure you get the contractor's license number. It may help to reduce the risks of getting ripped off. You could be liable if people get hurt on your project when working with a contractor... Read more →

Broadway and Market Street, Gloucester City, NJ (year 2009) photo by Caleigh Pittman (see article) Dear Camden County Residents, Natural hazards have the potential to cause property loss, loss of life, economic hardship, and threats to public health and safety. While an important aspect of emergency management deals with disaster recovery (i.e., those actions that a community must take to repair damages and make itself whole in the wake of a natural disaster), an equally important aspect of emergency management involves hazard mitigation. Hazard mitigation actions are efforts taken before a disaster happens to lessen the impact that future disasters of that type will have on people and property in the community. They are things you do today to be more protected in the future. A hazard mitigation plan is a well-organized and well-documented evaluation of the hazards that a jurisdiction is susceptible to, and the extent to which these... Read more →

White-85-Year-Olds Wait While Black and Latino Seniors in Virginia Get Vaccine Priorty

In a move that is outraging senior citizens throughout Virginia, the state is shifting its COVID-19 vaccination distribution to prioritize black and Latino residents even as desperate 85-year-olds interviewed by Judicial Watch struggle to get the shot. Like several other states, Virginia is vaccinating its population in phases, with healthcare personnel and residents of long-term care facilities receiving utmost priority. With that population completed, according to the Virginia Department of Health, the second group includes a peculiar combination of frontline workers, people 65 and over, those with medical conditions, incarcerated criminals and those living in homeless shelters or “migrant labor camps.” As if it were not bad enough that law-abiding seniors are considered as important to Virginia officials as convicts and illegal immigrants, now comes another slap in the face. In the next few weeks, the state will give preference to black and Latino residents 65 and over while much... Read more →

From the Desk of

Mayor Daniel T. Spencer, Jr.
City of Gloucester City

My Fellow Citizens of Gloucester City, As a lifelong City resident, and now Mayor, my singular concern has always been the health, safety, and welfare of our residents. Recently, I became aware of a violation of a newly adopted NJDEP regulation for water quality involving PFNA. In 2020, the City authorized and funded in excess of one (1) million dollars’ worth of improvements to the water treatment system. The new treatment included the installation of state-of-the-art filters with granular activated carbon (GAC). This treatment method, currently in operation, is a highly reliable and proven option to remove certain chemicals, particularly organic chemicals, from water. Currently, New Jersey and California are the only two states to enact PFNA regulations as stringent as 13 part per trillion (“ppt”). Deadspin: Tiger Woods’ crash proves that Kobe Bryant’s death taught the media nothing

Writing this on the first anniversary of Kobe Bryant’s memorial service is sadly ironic and eternally frustrating, as it serves as a dejected reminder of just how unprofessional and chaotic the media landscape can be, as both of these unfortunate events were so recklessly covered. In case you forgot, TMZ told the world that Bryant was dead before his family had even been notified. This sad truth, along with the loss of copy editors in newsrooms and society’s social media addiction, has given rise to a new strain of content that is often intoxicating but rarely accurate. Look, the competitive aspect of this industry will never go away, and that’s fine, but only when there’s an underlying drive to get the... Read more →
