BROOKLAWN, NJ (January 4, 2021)--Searching for something on the internet we discovered a For Sale advertisement for Clancy's Pub by the Creek, 304 Crescent Blvd., Brooklawn, NJ. The advertisement from COLDWELL BANKER reads

Fantastic opportunity to own/operate a bar/restaurant in the post-pandemic world. This fully functional property seats +/- 150 people inside, plus an outdoor patio for 50+ patrons. Also features an upstairs apartment or owner's office. Located at the signalized intersection at the corner of heavily traveled Rt. 130. Could easily be re-purposed for another user/business or perhaps a candidate for redevelopment. The opportunities for this property are endless!! Owner financing considered. Will also consider leasing property at $5,000/month NNN. LIQUOR LICENSE IS NOT INCLUDED IN SALE, BUT CAN BE PURCHASED SEPARATELY   SALE PRICE $459,900

Clancy Pub, 304 Crescent Blvd., Brooklawn. For decades this property was the home of Waynes Log Cabin, owned by Tony Villari. What a great guy he was. This was a hangout for many Ironworkers in the South Jersey/Philadelphia area. I remember sitting at the bar with John Gorecki. It is early in the day. Sitting across from us were two big men. Someone said, "Hey Chalie that guy on the other side of the bar was the bum who gave your father a lot of shit last night. Chalie just walked into the bar.  Before another word was spoken Chalie was on top of the one guy beating the crap out of him. "You gave my 66-year-old father a hard time, you bastard," as he threw one fist after the other hitting him in the face. Chalie was a lot smaller than both of these guys. So Tony, who is in his late 60s and his 80-year-old brother were holding back the other guy from getting involved. I said to John, (nobody besides us were in the bar) "What should we do?  He said, "Don't do anything, just sit and watch."   A few minutes later those two guys were thrown out the door. Chalie sat down and drank a beer as though nothing happened.   This happened in the late 80s early 90s. After Tony died the property sat empty for many years.

CORRECTION: IT was the day for recyclable pickup, there was an empty box in plain view, along with bottles, papers in the two trash cans. The facts remain the same. The contractor should have disposed of the items. ~CNBNews

This past week on one of our walks Joe Berry, 27 S. Stinson Avenue spoke to us about his trash/recyclables not being picked up on December 31. We reviewed a  video from his Ring camera that displayed an employee who works for the Trash collector hired by Gloucester City, walking by Berry's two trash cans (near the telephone pole stacked against the black fence)without looking inside of either one.  Berry said this has happened before specifically on September 23 and October 22, 2020.

On December 31 Berry said he called the trash contractor at 8:18 and 8:48 AM.

"I called the Gloucester City Public Works at 8:24, when I got no answer I decided to drive to the city compound on Brick Street. At 9 AM I spoke with city employee Jack Zuccarelli. He said he would call the trash contractor and promised our trash/recyclables would be picked up by the end of the day. We are still waiting, so much for promises."

When we looked at the video we saw the employee standing a few feet from Berry's two large receptacles. He picked up the neighbors trash but he ignored Berry's trash.

This has been an ongoing problem for the Berry family. Who is responsible in the City Public Works Department that handles a problem like this? Why doesn't anyone answer the phone at that compound? Mr. Berry pays his taxes he is entitled to having his trash/recyclables picked up on a timely basis.

Fine Line Home Remodeling (FLHR) and Construction Management have opened an office at 309 South Broadway, Gloucester City. Many moons ago the building was the home of The Celtic Tavern, also Johnny Blues.  When the bar was Johnny Blues there was a City Judge who used to sit at the back of the bar in the shadows. I always wonder why he and several city politicians met there for their pow wows.

The building was the home of Gloucester Plumbing Supply for many years before the owner moved into a new location at 520 S. Broadway. Last year the City of Gloucester City approved an Urban Development Action Grant (UDAG) for $80,000 for MEGALEX.  Wonder why MEGALEX needs a UDAG loan if they are selling the property?

The Gloucester City Housing Office cited a property owner in the Riverview Heights section of the city for placing their trash out days before pickup. The citation also drew attention to the trash piled in the back yard which includes a rusty Ford Mustang without a license plate or registration sticker. Recently the house next to this property was renovated and sold. How would you like to live nearby and have to look at this deplorable site?

The trash was placed out days before pickup. The heavy winds blew the debris throughout the block. The Housing Office cited the property owner for violating the ordinances. A few days afterward the property owner had loose trash piled up alongside his house. In the back of their yard, there is a rusty Ford Mustang with no license plate or registration sticker. Storing junk cars on a property is against the law in the City of Gloucester City. (CNBNews photo)

The violation notice was taped on the front door of the property by the City Housing Office.  People put their trash out too early, especially on recycling days.  They have no lids on the receptacle and all it takes is for the wind to blow it over and the refuse blows throughout the block. One person like this individual can ruin a neighborhood. Kudos to the Housing Office for their efforts to try and put a stop to this annoying problem.

A few days later after being cited and having the trash picked up, the property owner started to pile loose trash up alongside his house. In the back of their yard, this same person is storing a rusty Ford Mustang with no license plate or registration sticker. If a car or big rig approaches the bird it just stands there and dares the driver to hit him. Someone suggested the turkey sees its reflection on the vehicle which would explain why it pecks at the automobiles. But if that is the case why isn't the rest of the flock that lives nearby doing the same thing?
(CNBNews photo)

TOMMY THE TURKEY must have a death wish. We caught him last week at the heavily traveled intersection of  US Route 130 and Market StreetGloucester City stopping traffic in both directions. A large tractor and trailer jammed his breaks on to avoid hitting "Tom".  He has been tacking all kinds of vehicles since early fall. It is surprising how many good samaritans get out of their vehicles and try chasing the bird of the street and into the nearby woods. Hopefully, nobody gets killed; but this situation is definitely an accident waiting to happen.
