Ann was born in Camden and was a 1964 graduate of Gloucester Catholic High School. She was known as “Sturg” and excelled at basketball where she played both forward and guard. She helped Gloucester Catholic Lady Rams dominate the newly formed Catholic League. In 1961, the team went undefeated and topped the 70 point mark several times on its way to the first ever league title. Sturg was the outstanding shooters in South Jersey history and was the master of long range jump shots. She played all four years for head coach Bert Nolan. After high school, Sturg was invited to play with the Lady Goldtrotters and traveled the New York – Virginia circuit for several years. She was the first coach of the Saint Mary’s CYO team which later produced so many fine athletes for Gloucester Catholic High School and Coach Nolan.
