$1 million in FY 2021 Bikeway grants

(Trenton) – The Murphy Administration today announced five Bikeway Grants totaling $1 million to help advance local Bikeway projects in four counties – Atlantic, Burlington, Hudson, and Ocean counties.
“Transportation infrastructure is more than just roads and bridges. Investing in bikeways encourages people to consider alternate forms of public transportation,” NJDOT Commissioner Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti said. “The Murphy administration recognizes the importance of quality-of-life projects funded by the Bikeway Grant Program.”
The Bikeway Grant Program provides $1 million in grants annually to counties and municipalities in order to promote bikeways as an alternate mode of transportation that support the State’s goal of achieving 1,000 new miles of dedicated bikeways in New Jersey.
Each municipality and each county may submit one application. Projects are awarded on a competitive basis taking into consideration new bike miles created, safety, connectivity, service to public, Complete Streets Policy and an applicant’s past performance using other Local Aid funds. The following five municipalities received grants totaling $1 million available in FY 2021 Bikeway Grant Program:
- Atlantic City, Atlantic County: $125,000
- Medford Lakes, Burlington County: $100,000
- Hoboken, Hudson County: $325,000
- Ventnor, Atlantic County: $100,000
- Ocean Township, Ocean County: $350,000
The Bikeway Grant Program, as well as other Local Aid state-funded grant programs, benefit residents by enabling local governments to significantly reduce or eliminate reliance on local property tax dollars to support their projects.
