New Board Games for 2021

(December 9, 2020)--Contrary to popular belief, board games are not for kids. Sure, if we’re talking about Sorry or Candyland, even though they’re perfectly fine for adults as well, but generally board games don’t have children-friendly mechanics and rules.

2020 has seen the release of many new board games but the worldwide situation has made some publishers push back their release for 2021. Speaking of the worldwide pandemic, it put a halt to social gatherings, including the biggest gaming convention PAX, and many board game nights, but hopefully, this won’t be the case for 2021. Especially since game designers are becoming even more creative, trying to simulate real situations in the most unreal scenarios, with an even greater factor of replayability.

With that being said, there are a lot of games that are set to make their debut in 2021 and people couldn’t be more excited about them. Co-op, single and multiplayer, card games, and many more, there’s a lot to look forward to in 2021, Screen Shot 2020-12-09 at 12.33.50especially after a year such as this one.

Aeon Trespass: Odyssey

Aeon Trespass: Odyssey is one of the games that was set to release in 2020 but the pandemic made it hard for them to mass produce it so we’re gonna have to wait till 2021 to try it out. Namely, Aeon Trespass: Odyssey is a 1-4 player co-op game where the choices and decisions you make throughout it affect the final outcome. It’s a campaign meaning it’s played over several sessions so your choice will affect the way the game is played in the future. This gives it an excellent replayability factor, so you won’t get bored after the first time.

In addition to the choices, this game doesn’t let you win so easily as there are only a handful of ways to win as opposed to the many ways to lose. You train your argonauts and set them on many adventures where they have to defeat the main villains or solve a crisis. You can build new facilities, craft weapons and equipment, forge alliances and gather allies!

Oath: Chronicles of Empire and Exile

For all history buffs willing to try and change the past, Oath: Chronicles of Empire and Exile lets you do just that. It’s played by 1-6 people and they guide the course of history throughout the game. Players can either be agents enforcing the old order or spies that plot to take down the kingdom.

This game is also based on choices that affect the way the game will continue to be played by other players too. For example, if a player chooses to anarchy and chaos in the beginning, players would later have to deal with a land of thieves and warlords. The best thing about this game is that a player can play the game alone and then use that same copy and continue to play it with their friends. No predetermined ends, just the creative power of an individual player. This game is interesting, it’s already on more than 1.6k wishlists on BoardGameGeek users.

New Types of Chess Board Games in 2021

Chess not a new game in 2021, it is one of the oldest games with a long and impressive history. It is a game that has been played for thousands of years. We believe the reasons is that it is easy to get started but takes a lifetime to master. The chess rules can be learned in just a few minutes and then you are ready to start playing. What is interesting is that in 2021 there are coming more variants of Chess. There are many different ways to play play it and one new variant that we think will grow big in 2021 is Tashir Chess. It is similar to regular chess but it a bit easier to play online and the games are a bit quicker. Follow the link to above to learn more about how to play Tashir Chess in 2021.

Lawyer Up

Not everyone can become a lawyer and it requires a lot of studying to become one, but with Lawyer Up, you can easily assume the role. This interesting card game is a two-player game where one takes the role of prosecution and the other of the defense. The scenarios are different and include everything from murder to theft and everything in between.

Players go through the evidence and choose what is sure to make them win the case. Then, just like a real trial, they take turns questioning the various witnesses and build a good enough case to win, combining cards with the same symbols to gain influence. Later on, they use that influence to sway the judges and jury and ultimately win the game. It’s a very interesting game that makes you want to suit up for real!

FrostHaven

Gloomhaven has been a favorite of many seasoned board game players so it’s no wonder people are anxiously waiting for FrostHaven, its sequel. Like its predecessor, FrostHaven prompts players to explore the world, ward off enemies from their settlement and survive in the harsh weather and merciless forces of the unknown. In addition to the innovative card-based combat system that the original has, FrostHaven has new characters, races, enemies, more than a hundred new items, and a brand new 100 scenario campaign.

Many fans of the original would be happy to hear that items from the original and FrostHaven are interchangeable, but bringing them into play has certain mechanics. After all, FrostHaven is set in a remote outpost, up North from the capital White Oak so players will need to learn how to craft items too rather than just rely on buying them.
