Gloucester Township Resident Alerts Public to Scam by Mail

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP NJ (December 15, 2020)--The Gloucester Township Police send out the following information about a resident who was  a target of "Scam By Mail".
Check out this "Scam By Mail" that was reported to Gloucester Township Police by one of our residents!  We have been sharing many "don't fall for scams, especially if they're requesting GIFT CARDS" posts, and this is a perfect example!
Thank you to Danielle, who didn't fall for it, and reported the following narrative and photo: " I wanted to report a scam I received in the mail today. I attached a photo of the letter, check, and FedEx envelope. This scammer is asking us to deposit a check for $1,850, keep $400 and then purchase GIFT CARDS with the other $1,450. Obviously, this is a scam as I'm sure the check will bounce."
No doubt the check will bounce, and a potential victim usually finds out AFTER they submit the gift card numbers to the scammer (acting as if they are really Whole Foods Market) and the victim is out of $1,450.00. Be vigilant, Gloucester Township, if it seems too good to be true then it usually is!
