Letter to the Editor: Camden County Thanks Our Vets
Wednesday, November 11, 2020
Thank you never seems like enough.
We wouldn’t be here without the brave Americans who answer the call to protect us day in and day out.
We must show our thanks to our service members not just on days like Veteran’s Day, but in the services we provide for them every day. Which is why, as your representative in Congress, I will always fight for veterans' access to healthcare, education and employment opportunities.
Standing Up for Our Veterans in Congress
As a member of the House Armed Services Committee (HASC) and the Chairman of the Tactical Air and Land Subcommittee, I am committed to fighting for both our active duty servicemembers and our veterans and ensuring they have all the resources they need.
Here are a few of the pieces of legislation I have worked on over the past year:
- BRAVE Act
- Aimed to educate veterans about registered apprenticeship programs.
- Jobs and Childcare for Military Families Act of 2020
- Focused on reducing military spouse unemployment by changing the tax code to incentivize businesses to hire military spouses
- National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)
- Supports our servicemembers and their families, as well as our defense civilian workforce, while providing for a strong national defense
Celebrating Veterans Day
I joined with Camden County Government for a virtual Veterans Day ceremony to honor Camden County Veterans. The event will be viewable beginning November 11 at 10:00 am.
The Library of Congress continues to host virtual events to celebrate the Library of Congress Veterans History Project (VHP).
Resources for Veterans
The impact COVID-19 has on daily routines may cause unanticipated stress on some veterans in crisis. In this time of social distancing, it is important to keep reaching out to those in need of someone to talk to.
For veterans in crisis, help is available by:
- Call the Veteran Crisis Line at 1-(800)273-8255 and press 1
- Visit VeteransCrisisLine.Net/
Chat - Text 838255
