Rosetti sent the following information to parents of the students.

Brooklawn Family,

I regret to inform you that, as a result of the rise in COVID-19 cases statewide, as well as increased community spread, Alice Costello Elementary School will be moving to remote learning for a minimum of the next two weeks, beginning tomorrow (Friday, November 13, 2020). Our target date to re-enter the building is Monday, November 30, 2020, however, this is subject to change. In the next two weeks, we will continue to monitor the situation in the state, county, and community, and will communicate with you as things develop.

Tomorrow, our school will be open for the distribution of materials only. Our staff will be available from 9:30-11:30 to distribute materials to those who need them. Students who are picking up materials should do so where they line up and enter the building daily. Tomorrow will be a remote learning day for all students. Teachers will be assigning students work to complete, while we transition to full remote learning. We will begin live remote learning, on our September remote learning schedule, beginning Monday, November 16th.

I understand that the decision to close the building is not the most convenient decision for some in our community. However, it is the best decision for the health and safety of our students, staff, and community.

As the building closure will take us through the Thanksgiving holiday, I again remind the community that, if you are traveling to a state on the New Jersey Travel Advisory list here, the school district is requiring that your student enter quarantine for 14 calendar days from the day your family returned to New Jersey. If you have traveled outside the state, to a state that requires a quarantine upon return, please notify the main office and your student’s teachers, and we will make arrangements for your student to attend school remotely until the end of the quarantine period.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at: info@alicecostello.com.

Sincerely,

Dr. Samuel Rosetti

Superintendent/Principal

Brooklawn School District
