The Avalon Department of Recreation has announced the resumption of its popular “Sit and Be Fit” exercise classes.  The classes will resume on Monday, October 12th inside Avalon Community Hall and will be held in strict compliance safety measures and recommendations from the State of New Jersey, Cape May County Department of Health, and Centers for Disease Control.

“Avalon is fortunate to have a Community Hall that can easily accommodate several hundred people during normal conditions”, said Avalon Department of Recreation Director Chuck McDonnell.  “We intend to allow a maximum capacity of 25 people, including staff, to begin the resumption of Sit and Be Fit. We will adjust our capacity load as required by the State of New Jersey and health agencies.  We are happy to provide Avalon seniors with an opportunity to be with each other and enjoy this passive exercise program that provides countless benefits”.

The Sit and Be Fit classes will be available only to Avalon residents and property owners Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 11:15am-12 Noon.  The classes will again be taught by Cindi Dandrige.  Chairs will be set up approximately ten feet apart from each other and all participants will be required to wear masks.  Chairs will be disinfected after each class by recreation staff.  Protocols will be established by the Department for individuals to pledge their participation for each class.

For individuals who do not feel comfortable in a group setting, Sit and Be Fit videos are available on the Department’s website,  Additional activities will be scheduled when practical and in compliance with all safety and health requirements.
