Francis (“Frank”) T. Pallante, Sr. of Westville, NJ, died peacefully at home in his sleep on October 25, 2020 at the age of 84 following a long illness. Born on October 7, 1936, Frank met his wife Shirley T. Pallante (nee Benjamin) at Gloucester Catholic High School when they were fifteen years old. On December 20, 1956, they were married in Honolulu by the Pearl Harbor Navy Chaplain and remained best friends during nearly 64 years of marriage. They returned to Hawaii for their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Frank served in the U.S. Navy for four years on the U.S.S. Edmunds DE 406, spending significant time in both East and Southeast Asia. NEWARK, N.J. – On October 23, 2020, Le’andre Kemont Jefferson, a United States citizen, arrived at Newark Liberty International Airport from Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, and presented himself for inspection. During the examination of Jefferson’s luggage, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Officers discovered 12 vacuum-packed bags, wrapped in foil, and further concealed inside clothing. Camden CITY N.J. – Two brothers have been sentenced for their roles in the November 2018 fatal shooting of 18-year-old Thomas Reyes of Camden, according to Acting Camden County Prosecutor Jill S. Mayer. Ryan Wilkins, 25, of Camden, was sentenced by Judge Gwendolyn Blue to 30 years in New Jersey State Prison. His brother, Curtis Miller, 26, of Camden, was sentenced to 55 years in New Jersey State Prison. Police responded to the 1000 block of Carl Miller Blvd. on Nov. 20, 2018 for a ShotSpotter Activation. When they arrived, they found Reyes suffering from multiple gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. In August of 2020, the Wage and Hour Division of the Department of Labor issued an opinion letter with the designation FLSA 2020-14. In this letter, it detailed the rules for computing the pay rate of salaried employees. It also addressed questions regarding overtime calculations for the fluctuating workweek or FWW method. The provisions detailed in FLSA 2020-14 will also affect states, including Massachusetts, which have their own minimum wage laws. These new rules will change the way overtime is calculated as one of many adaptations to work conditions in the new normal. TRENTON (October 28, 2020)--– The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission today announced that vehicle registration renewals are now available by appointment at NJMVC.gov for customers who are not eligible for online renewal. Most registration renewals can be completed online at NJMVC.gov. Appointments are offered only for those who have tried to renew their registration online, but are not eligible, necessitating an in-person visit to an MVC Vehicle Center. The MVC has added 20 vehicle categories eligible for online registration renewal since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
