By Todd DeFeo | The Center Square Gloucestercitynews.net files (The Center Square) – A proposal to slow the implementation of a $1 billion unemployment insurance (UI) payroll tax increase is a prudent policy that eases the burden on Garden State businesses, experts say. For years, lawmakers and elected officials diverted money from New Jersey’s Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund to pay for unrelated projects. While the fund was on solid footing before COVID-19, job losses stemming from the pandemic and protracted business closures have weakened the foundation. The current state of the UI fund automatically triggered a payroll tax increase. Rather than taxing businesses the $1 billion at one time, lawmakers want to implement the tax in smaller increments over three years. This tax is going to happen, and there’s nothing we can do to unilaterally stop the tax, but what the Legislature can do is they can soften it,” Christopher...

Source: The Gateway Pundit | The Trump administration is sending so many gang members back to El Salvador that Salvadoran officials are now in a panic. This is the opposite of the Obama strategy. In the fiscal year 2015, the Obama administration released a total of 564 illegal sex crime criminals on the streets of America because many of their home countries would not take them back. Sticking to its commitment of dismantling the nation’s deadliest street gang, the Trump administration has criminally charged 127 members of the famously violent Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) this year and half a dozen face life in prison after being convicted. It’s a start but, shockingly, it barely puts a dent on the problem since the MS-13 has an estimated 10,000 members in the U.S. and tens of thousands more abroad, according to Department of Justice (DOJ) figures. Back in 2012 the Obama administration issued...

In August of 2020, the Wage and Hour Division of the Department of Labor issued an opinion letter with the designation FLSA 2020-14. In this letter, it detailed the rules for computing the pay rate of salaried employees. It also addressed questions regarding overtime calculations for the fluctuating workweek or FWW method. The provisions detailed in FLSA 2020-14 will also affect states, including Massachusetts, which have their own minimum wage laws. These new rules will change the way overtime is calculated as one of many adaptations to work conditions in the new normal. Time-And-A-Half Rules Still Apply For Hourly Rates According to the FLSA, employers have to pay an overtime rate that is at least 1.5 times the regular hourly rate. There are, however, certain “exempt” occupations to this provision. This includes those who are in “bona fide” administrative, executive or other professional positions. Gov. Tom Wolf and Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar told reporters Tuesday that postal delays and no ability to prep the 1 million absentee ballots already returned to county election offices means ensuring a fair election will extend beyond Nov. 3. Both encouraged voters who have yet to mail their ballots to instead drop off their votes with local officials. “I encourage all Pennsylvanians to be patient,” Wolf said. “We deserve to have a fair election. All votes will be counted and the numbers will be accurate – it will just take little longer than usual.” The anticipated delay comes as Pennsylvania rises in prominence...
