PITTSGROVE NJ--Evan Rosser of Pittsgrove, NJ passed away suddenly on June 26, 2009, from injuries sustained in a bicycle accident. Evan, aged 16 at the time, was soon to be a Sophomore at Arthur P. Schalick High School in Pittsgrove. Ten years later, his sisters Jacquelyn Campbell of Bridgeton and Elyse Elliott of Pittsgrove founded The Helmet Initiative in his honor, to teach children the importance of helmet safety, and to provide life-saving helmets to people who cannot afford them. In 2019, the Initiative provided over 100 young people with helmets.

A few weeks ago, Elyse Elliott, Administrative Secretary at Creativity CoLaboratory Charter School, saw two C3 students riding bikes around Elmer without wearing helmets. She had a conversation with them about the Initiative, and the group honed in on one of the reasons kids are not wearing helmets… Wearing helmets isn’t cool. They came up with a plan to help, they would design their own helmets and be more willing to wear them.
The students brought their idea to the 8th grade class, and all the students were excited to design their own helmets. The designs will be sent to Triple 8, the leading global brand of Helmets, Pads, and Protective Gear, whois interested to learn what kids in this age group want to see on helmets.
