Most of us have played a sport at some point in our lives. Some of us do it recreationally, say having a kick-about in the park. Others do it competitively. Throughout the entire educational path, learning institutions provide numerous platforms for students to engage physically. It makes sports an incredibly widespread interest among learners.

It follows then that a student might be inclined to pursue a sport in college. They might be simply looking to try out something new in their new environment. After all, the college promises to be full of opportunities and experiences. Hence, it makes for a sensible choice to pick a sport and find out what lies in store for them.  

Similarly, they might be looking to find a way to keep themselves physically and mentally fit. College is inherently hectic. You will have to juggle through numerous responsibilities. If you consider taking up the sport as a career, this opportunity becomes a benchmark of what might be your profession. The Downside

There is only one clear disadvantage of playing a sport in college. Time is usually a limited resource. By taking up a sport, some of your time is fully committed to the activity. Therefore, it would be best to consider if it fits well into your schedule. As with any other aspect of life, finding the right balance is what sets you apart.

Nevertheless, it is worth considering that this downside can be spun otherwise. In committing your time to the sport, you will also acquire related skills.
