By Bethany Blankley | The Center Square (The Center Square) – The U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs and the U.S. Committee on Finance Majority Staff released its finding from a year-long investigation into Hunter Biden, the second son of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden. The investigation was launched after Finance Committee Chairman Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, publicly raised conflict-of-interest concerns about the sale of a U.S. company to a Chinese firm linked to Hunter Biden one month before Congress was notified about a whistleblower complaint that House Democrats used to impeach President Donald Trump. The Republican-controlled Senate acquitted Trump. While Democrats were pushing to impeach Trump, Grassley raised concerns about corruption linking Hunter Biden to millions of dollars in transactions taking place between the Ukrainian gas company Burisma Holdings, Russian oligarch Yelena Baturina, and Chinese businessmen with ties to Beijing's communist government. Since 2014, government officials had...

By Ted O'Neil | The Center Square (The Center Square) (Sept. 30, 2020)--– An argumentative and contentious first presidential debate Tuesday night was filled with interruptions, personal insults and frequent requests by moderator Chris Wallace of Fox News for the candidates to adhere to the rules their campaigns agreed to abide by. President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden squared off against each other over 90 minutes at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, often talking over each other and ignoring time limits for their responses and counterpoints. At one point, Trump said “there is nothing smart about you” to Biden, followed by Biden later calling Trump “a clown.” The status of the economy in the face of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic was a major topic of discussion as the candidates discussed six topics in 15-minute segments. “We had to close down the greatest economy in American history...

by New Jersey Sierra Club The gas tax in New Jersey is increasing by 9.3 cents per gallon on Thursday, October 1. This will bring the gas tax total in New Jersey to 50.7 cents. Diesel will also be taxed by 57.7 cents per gallon. This is because less gas was sold in New Jersey during the 12 months ending in June 2020. “Nobody likes to see the gas tax go up, but this shows that people are using less gas. People have been driving less during the pandemic, which is why the gas tax is going up. This means less air pollution. New Jersey is one of the most vulnerable states to climate impacts, so it is more important than ever for us to transition to a green economy. We need to improve our public transportation and expand electric vehicles in New Jersey for the good of the public...

This legislation would protect Americans and people around the world from the continued emergence of devastating zoonotic diseases from risky wildlife management practices by eliminating cruel and unsafe live wildlife markets here at home and positioning the U.S. as a global leader to end the trade of live wildlife for human consumption. “The overarching lesson of COVID-19 is that we can no longer allow inhumane and high-risk interactions between humans and wild animals. Live wildlife markets and the wildlife trade cannot continue, anywhere in the world,” said Kitty Block, president and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States. “Most Americans are just now learning that the United States imports wildlife for human consumption and medicines...

Gloucestercitynews.net files Governor blames lack of federal relief By Kim Jarrett | The Center Square (The Center Square) – New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said the fiscal year 2021 budget he signed Tuesday “lives up to the ideal of shared sacrifice in trying times by including meaningful tax fairness.” The $32.7 million budget approved by the Legislature along party lines reinstates the millionaire’s tax on income over $1 million and adds a 2.5% surcharge on corporate profits over $1 million. The spending plan also includes $4.5 billion in borrowing from the federal government and a predicted $2.5 billion surplus. Standing behind a podium that said “Middle Class Tax Relief,” the governor said it wasn’t the tax package alone that created a fairer budget, citing a plan to give couples with children up to $500 in tax rebates next year. But some did not share the governor’s opinion of the budget....

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) are issuing this announcement to raise awareness of the potential threat posed by attempts to spread disinformation regarding cyberattacks on U.S. voter registration databases or voting systems. During the 2020 election season, foreign actors and cyber criminals are spreading false and inconsistent information through various online platforms in an attempt to manipulate public opinion, discredit the electoral process, and undermine confidence in U.S. democratic institutions. These malicious actors could use these forums to also spread disinformation suggesting successful cyber operations have compromised election infrastructure and facilitated the “hacking” and “leaking” of U.S. voter registration data. In reality, much U.S. voter information can be purchased or acquired through publicly available sources. While cyber actors have in recent years obtained voter registration information, the acquisition of this data did not impact the voting process or the integrity of...

NAPSA)—More than 4 million Americans these days add more flavor and fun to their lives by lighting up electronic cigarettes. Also called personal vaporizers or “vapes,” a lot of people associate these with cigarettes but they’re something very different. Instead of tobacco, they contain a liquid made up of USP food-grade vegetable glycerin, propylene glycol, flavoring, and nicotine. This is turned into vapor by a battery-powered atomizer attached to the device. You inhale (and exhale) this vapor, not tobacco smoke. An increasing number of people are turning away from cigarettes and toward flavorful vaporizers. Flavor Favorites Perhaps the part that appeals the most is all the flavors. Propaganda E-Liquid, which creates and distributes the flavored liquids to hundreds of “vape shops,” reports that its best-selling flavors are Illuminati (a blend of blood orange, pineapple, strawberry), Subliminal (sweet and sour razzmatazz candy), Widow Maker (Bavarian cream-infused blueberries) and WildFire (toasted almond...

The New Jersey Business & Industry Association told the Select Commission on Emergency COVID-19 Borrowing today that New Jersey’s fiscal shortfall does not amount to the need for $4.5 billion in borrowing proposed in the FY2021 State Budget. NJBIA Vice President of Government Affairs Christopher Emigholz urged the commission in written and oral testimony to limit the borrow to only what is truly necessary, as to not add to the state’s massive indebtedness. He also advocated for following the New Jersey Supreme Court ruling that allowed for borrowing without voter approval during the coronavirus pandemic but only for the shortfall caused by COVID-19. (Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the United States Supreme Court: What a brave, wonderful Supreme Court pick by President Trump! President Trump has once again stood up for the U.S. Constitution with his nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. Judge Barrett has a demonstrated record of applying the rule of law rather than legislating from the bench. Her record shows that she will not only respect but apply the U.S. Constitution as written and intended by our Founding Fathers. And it would be a wonderful milestone that Judge Barrett would be the first conservative woman member on the Supreme Court. She seems to be a full spectrum conservative who is likely to be a force on the Supreme Court for years to come. This nomination is another...

Can you paint your migraine? As migraine surgery becomes more popular, plastic surgeons ask patients to paint their pain 24-Sep-2020 9:00 AM EDT, by Wolters Kluwer Health: Lippincott favorite_border Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Migraine patients whose pain sketches show more “typical” patterns (top) have better responses to migraine trigger site surgery. TRENTON, NJ--New Jersey gun owners received a bit of good news recently when the Legislature sent the budget to Gov. Phil Murphy, and it did not contain the revenues from massive hikes the executive had earlier proposed on firearm permitting fees. Murphy had unsuccessfully proposed these Draconian fees before. Unrelenting, his 2020 budget proposal would have resulted in pistol purchase permit fees increasing from $2 to $48 and Firearms Identification card fees increasing from $5 to $98. It’s even more offensive considering the vast majority of states don’t even require these bureaucratic and costly hoops in the first place. This amounts to a poll tax on gun ownership and a fundamental constitutional right. The Governor, a Wall Street multi-millionaire who enjoys around-the-clock protection and a taxpayer-paid security detail, has clearly made his position known: elitists with money have more rights than average citizens. The ability to provide for one’s own...

Newswise — Middle-aged adults who report symptoms of insomnia and are sleeping less than six hours a night may be at increased risk of cognitive impairment, according to a study by Penn State College of Medicine researchers. The results may help health care professionals understand which patients who report insomnia are at increased risk for developing dementia. Insomnia is characterized by reports of difficulty falling asleep, difficulty staying asleep or waking up too early and not being able to get back to sleep. When these symptoms occur at least 3 nights a week and for at least 3 months, it is considered a chronic disorder. Researchers found that adults who reported insomnia and obtained less than six hours of measured sleep in the laboratory were two times more likely to have cognitive impairment than people with the same insomnia complaints who got six or more hours of sleep in the...
