Threatening Situation Involving Firearm Ends Peacefully in Gloucester Township

 
GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP NJ (August 26, 2020)--On Wednesday, August 26, 2020, at approximately 12:16 PM, the Gloucester Township Police responded to 1341 Blackwood Clementon Road, building #500, for a verbal altercation with a male threatening the caller with a firearm. Officers responded to the scene and immediately set up a perimeter around the alleged suspect’s apartment. Specially trained officers from the Gloucester Township Police Crisis Negotiations Team responded and attempted to make contact with the resident. After several minutes of phone calls, contact was made with residents and negotiations began. After twenty minutes of negotiations, a female resident safely exited the apartment with several juveniles. 
 
Female was taken into custody and the juveniles were moved to a safe location with our Community Relations Officer. The children were unharmed. A specially trained detective from the Juvenile Family Services Bureau was on scène and offered services to the female and children. The New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency was notified. 
 
Officers proceeded to check the residence for additional occupants and a male was located hiding beneath a bed, identified as George Hicks. Hicks was safely taken into custody and removed from the residence with no issues. Mr. Hicks was remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility for a Violation of Probation warrant out of Camden County and several additional warrants out of various jurisdictions.
