Ewing Couple Charged with Pos. of 700 Glassine Bags of Heroin, $292,000 in Cash, AK-47

EWING TOWNSHIP, AUGUST 26, 2020)--
Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrests of PEDRO DEJESUS, age 29,  (single; unemployed) and FRANCES PEREZ-ARIAS, age 22 (single; self-employed) in online clothing sales) both of 125 West Upper Ferry Road, Ewing, NJ, on charges of Maintaining A Controlled Dangerous Substance Facility, Possession Of Heroin With Intent To Distribute, Possession Of An Assault Weapon, Possession Of A Firearm In Commission Of A CDS Offense, Possession Of A High Capacity Magazine, Money Laundering, Distribution Of Drug Paraphernalia, and Endangering The Welfare Of A Child. The arrests are the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti.

As a result of an ongoing related investigation in Bergen County, on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, along with the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, Mercer County Sheriff’s Department, and Ewing Police Department executed a court-authorized search warrant at 125 West Upper Ferry Road, Ewing, NJ. During their search, detectives located approximately 700 glassine envelopes each containing suspected heroin, several shrink-wrapped rubber vessels containing what is suspected to be liquid heroin, packaging materials and other items associated with the processing and milling of heroin, an AK-47 assault rifle with a loaded extended magazine, and approximately $291,890. PEDRO DEJESUS and FRANCES PEREZ-ARIAS were present at their residence with their infant child and were arrested without incident.

PEDRO DEJESUS and FRANCES PEREZ-ARIAS were each charged with one count of Maintaining A Controlled Dangerous Substance Facility, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-4, a 1st degree crime; one count of Possession With Intent To Distribute Heroin, inviolation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5b(2), a 2nd degree crime; one count of Money Laundering, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:21-25a, a 2nd degree crime; one count of Possession Of An Assault Weapon, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5f, a 2nd degree crime; one count of Possession Of A Firearm In Commission Of A CDS Offense, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4.1, a 2nd degree crime; one count of Endangering The Welfare Of A Child, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a, a 2nd degree crime; one count of Possession Of A High Capacity Magazine, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-3J, a 4th degree crime; and one count of Possession With Intent To Distribute Paraphernalia, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:36-3, a 4th degree crime. PEDRO DEJESUS and FRANCES PEREZ-ARIAS were both remanded to the Mercer County Jail pending their first appearances.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
