The Avalon Borough Council received a report on Wednesday, July 22nd from Business Administrator Scott Wahl and Municipal Engineer Tom Thornton regarding the reconstruction of the 8th Street jetty. The jetty was compromised during Winter Storm Jonas with its resiliency performance compromised during the storm. The Borough has received a generous grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to reconstruction the jetty that results in greater protection for the north end, a deceleration of sand displacement from north end beaches, and of course, a safer recreational fishing experience.
The contractor anticipates to be off the beach by July 31, 2020 with final restoration to occur street side. The contractor has approximately 50 feet to finish on the jetty before demobilization occurs. And yes, fishing rod holders have been re-installed for the length of the jetty.
