Dawn Watson's Pet Tip of the Week: Canine Good Citizen Accreditation

Dawn O Watson/CNBNews Contributor

The American Kennel Club has been around for one hundred thirty-five years. During this time the organization has grown and prospered, offering many services for dog owners, trainers, and breeders.

LogoOne of the many services they offer is the Canine Good Citizen evaluation, where trained evaluators assess each dog for their obedience, composure, and knowledge of commands. Any dog, no matter if he is a pure bred or a mix, can qualify for this achievement.

Canine Good Citizens are recognized throughout the United States and are given top priority at dog shows, agility trials, and other events. They are treated as special dogs because they are! And you, as the owner of a Canine Good Citizen belong to a select group of individuals for whom the training of and responsibility for his dog is of the utmost importance!

As a Canine Good Citizen evaluator for the AKC I have spent many years stressing the importance of proper dog training and responsible dog ownership. If you have questions about this or any other dog-related issue please contact me at brotherofthewolf@live.com or call or text 856.981.8957. My book, “Training Your Dog With Love and Compassion” is available on order at your local bookstore and on Amazon.com in eBook and paperback format.

Wado udohiyu, (thank you very much in the Cherokee language)
