(Gloucestercitynews.net)(June 30, 2020)--Tiz The Law became the first New York-trained thoroughbred to win the Belmont Stakes since 1882 when he landed the 2020 renewal of the Triple Crown event in June.
The Belmont Park contest brought up the first leg of the US Triple Crown in 2020 following the rescheduling of many of the major races this year.
Jockey Manuel Franco opted to chase the leaders in the early stages of the race in New York before hitting the front of the field just after the final bend. Once Tiz The Law was ahead of his rivals, he was able to power away, scoring by just under four lengths.
It was a strong performance as he justified all the strong hype around the horse at the start of this year. Connections can also be very excited about the rest of the season on the track.
His win in the Belmont Stakes was the colt’s third victory of the season. He remains unbeaten in 2020 with successes also coming in the Grade Three Holy Bull Stakes and Grade One Curlin Florida Derby.
Kentucky Derby Next Up For Talented Colt
The second leg of the Triple Crown will be the Kentucky Derby on September 5. Tiz The Law will be dropping back down in trip for this contest. Barclay Tagg’s runner has shown he has the speed to do well at Churchill Downs so he is likely to be a popular favorite.
In what has been an unusual year, the biggest threats to Tiz The Law in the Kentucky Derby are likely to come from Honor A.P and Authentic. Both of those horses missed the Belmont Stakes so they will prove to be new challengers to the US Triple Crown contender.
Many of the three-year-old thoroughbreds are still competing in various races this year to reach Grade One, and theup to date horse racing results from Paddy Power may give an indication if they will be able to build up momentum in time.
If successful at Churchill Downs, the Preakness Stakes will be the final leg of the US Triple Crown for Tiz The Law to complete. There have been 13 horses that have cemented their names into the history books by winning those three races, with Justify being the most recent in 2018.
Tiz The Law Now +700 to Win Breeders’ Cup Classic
The bookmakers have also slashed the odds on Tiz The Law winning the Breeders’ Cup Classic this year to +700. This race at Keeneland at the World Championship meeting is likely to be his last outing of 2020.
Arrogate was the last three-year-old in 2016 to land the feature race of the Breeders’ Cup. In what looks like an open contest this year, it is no surprise that Tiz The Law is being flagged up as one of the leading horse racing tips for the race.
Tagg has won the majority of the leading Grade One contests in the US, however, the Breeders’ Cup Classic has so far eluded the veteran trainer. It looks as though Tiz The Law will give him one last chance of adding the race to his list of wins.
